You idiots buzzed WHAT in NYC?

Look, man, I’m the first one to wag a finger at America for its sudden decision to decry terrorism because it finally reached these shores- but that doesn’t mean you should be crowing about September 11. That’s just fucked up.

Right, this isn’t the original survey, but it will do as a cite for your stupid standards: http://direct.bl.uk/bld/PlaceOrder.do?UIN=220595181&ETOC=RN&from=searchengine

Who the fuck are you to suggest that I had any part in that, or supported it in any way? This thread isn’t about that, and no one has suggested that you haven’t been terrorized at some point. This thread is about an activity that just happened in NYC and frightened the folks there. You don’t need to hijack this thread with your woes.

You admit the undeniable drama of the event and magnitude of people killed, but refuse to accept that it may have been quite unsettling to a lot of people to see what appears to be the exact same situation unfolding before their very eyes?

I can’t speak for atomicbadgerrace, but I was in the bathroom. Funding international terrorism always gives me the runs.

Nope, that’s an opinion piece. Try again.

I’m not at all doing that, and if that is the impression anyone has got I can only apologise unreservedly.

Bite me.

I really cannot be bothered. I know I am right. If anyone here really cares they can do the research and thus find it for themselves.

Wow. You’re really not going to like it here.

We have got to introduce you to Starving Artist.

I think he was referring to the thousands of US engineers, scientists, and creative people who have resettled in other countries.

Heck, that would be at least as fact-based as his other rantings.

I know you are wrong.

This is fun! Will you call me a name now, or do we jump straight to hitting each other?

I have been lurking since the days of the grapist and that wally (?) who faked his death.

I know how the SDMB works.

And I know damn well that no reasonable people will think less of me for not wasting hours of my time trying to find a cite that for all I know is not on the internet. The only ones that would lack either a job or a life, and fuck them, it’s not as though they are going anywhere anyway.

I know what I saw.

America has the best chocolate. Here’s a google search of the terms returning nearly 13 million results. I’m sure someone more interweb savvy than myself can find the relevant article, but it’s so immediately obvious, I don’t think it’s worth my time to look into.

[Doyle Lonnegan]Not only are you a troll, you’re a gutless troll as well.[/Doyle Lonnegan]

Please state for the record your particular country, as you have no location field and I can’t be arsed to look it up myself in your past postings. It’s just that the US has funded so many conflicts over so many years that I need to have more specifics before I can tell you my precise space-time coordinates at the time bombs were going off in your neighborhood.

You know, if you had come here and said X event in my country caused people in Y city to have flashbacks to the genuine terrorist attacks at Z time I wouldn’t have said jack, because terrorism is, well, terrifying regardless of where and when it happens. On the other hand, you come in here and gibber something about Americans being the most fearful people on earth but yet they shouldn’t be afraid because of something that resembles a real deadly event a mere 8 years ago?

No, I don’t have any respect for you.

Yes, and for a brief time on Monday it looked like there might be a repeat. As people did calm down by evening and nothing Really Bad happened to anyone we can all just say “false alarm” and get on with our lives. Except, apparently, for people outside of the country who seem to enjoy pissing on Americans for no more reason than they’re Americans (Or New Yorkers. Or just Not As Good As MY People. Whatever)

WHAT are you nattering on about? Seriously, if you have specific events in mind about a specific country spit it out - these guessing games are tedious at best.

Congratulations! I’ve been a member here since March of 1999.

Perhaps you don’t understand fully how this works. In that case, let me spell it out for you: I don’t know what you saw. You’ve made the claim (somewhat fantastical, in my opinion) that a survey showed Americans to be “the most frightened people on earth.” It’s my belief that a) this survey doesn’t exist, and you were just trying to make a point; or b) that such a survey DOES exist, but it doesn’t show what you remember it showing; or c) that the survey DOES exist, DOES show what you remember, but was done by an obviously biased group.

In short (and in case it’s not obvious), I’m either calling you a liar, or mentally deficient, or hopelessly naive. In fact, I’m happy calling you all three, which is what I’ll believe if you continue on this particular path you’ve selected.

The only thing you have to do to shoot me down and shut me up is come up with the blindingly obvious survey that you saw very recently. I’ll apologize at that point, if it’s clear the survey is legit. Otherwise, I’ll be forced to point and laugh at you, as I’m doing now.

If you really don’t want people to get the impression that you’re an asshole, you might do well to stop acting like one. I don’t think the Canadians are going to like you very much at all.

Aside from Hersey’s, your chocolate sucks.

New York City so heavily restricts the legal purchase and posession of firearms by the general public as to result in a de facto ban on private, legal, gun posession. That leaves…

  1. Police and other law enforcement.

  2. Politicians are generally not armed, their bodyguards (often NYPD) generally are. There are some, although relatively few, very high profile people (business executives, celebrities) who also have armed bodyguards.

  3. Thugs, gang members, drug dealers, common criminals, organized crime members, and the occasional whack job.

Anybody you think I’m missing?

(p.s. *legal *gun posession isn’t the topic here, not to mention irrelevant in this case, so leave it out.)

Right, you annoying wankers with a ludicrous sense of entitlement. Put these in your pipe and smoke them:

I have spent twenty minutes finding these. It would be unfair of me to ask you to donate 20 minutes worth of my salary, but if you would donate 20 minutes worth of your time or equivalent salary to a worthy charity (at this point may I suggest www.nspcc.org.uk if you’re stuck - there are some horrible cases these guys have to deal with) then I would be most appreciative

It’s very simple. If you don’t want to take the time to back up your assertions, you don’t have to make them.
