You Just Said WHAT?

My father is done working for the day. This calls for a move from the office to the living room where he will then watch Faux News after an afternoon listening to Shush Limbaugh and “Dr.” Laura. I go downstairs to retrieve a glass of milk I forgot.

The scene is now set. Add dialogue.

Der Pa turns on the TV. “I bet all they’ll talk about is that stupid Democrat who died because he couldn’t fly.”

   :smack:

Der Spaz stops short on the stairs. “WHAT?” she shrieks at near-supersonic levels.

After a smattering of dialogue, I realize my father doesn’t realize why what he said was so mind-bogglingly rude, stupid, and inconsiderate. Wellstone was a democrat, right? That means he’s EVIL and BENT ON DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY. It also, apparently, means he is too stupid to know what he’s doing at any given moment.

Sometimes I am amazed that I am descended from such an inconsiderate fuckwit.

Also, the senator wasn’t flying the plane. That’s what shocked me about his quote.

And yes, your father is a thundering moron.

But he wasn’t just a democrat, he was a liberal democrat!! [cue evil music]
Death, of course, is too good for those damn commie bastards.

Please tell me he doesn’t vote.

Well…true enough. Doesn’t mean one should wish him dead, though. Does the old man know there was a chance Wellfare was going to lose the Senate? I mean, I hated his liberal guts too. Doesn’t mean I wished him dead.

It is because of him and people like him that Jesse Helms was a senator for so long. My only regret is that I will never be able to vote agains Helms.

Heh. I’m lucky. My dad’s a Democrat. A Pennsylvania Catholic Democrat, meaning he’s a Pro-Life Democrat, but he’s still a Democrat.

I voted against Helms twice. Well, I voted for Wellstone, but I figure he canceled Helms out. I wonder if they ever voted the same on a bill.

Ironically, Wellstone and Helms were reportedly friends outside of the senate, even though they agreed politically on virtually nothing. Think about it. Jesse Helms buddy-buddy with Bono AND “Senator Welfare.” Is he getting soft in his old age.

Wellstone was starting to pull away from Coleman btw. He had a six point lead at last count, up from a three point lead. Not much, but outside the margin of error. Contrary to all public predictions, Wellstone’s numbers actually went UP here after he voted no on Iraq. People respected his sincerity and his balls, even if they disagreed with him.

Oh, and Spaz’s father is a tool.

OP, ask your dad whatever happened to the sensitive father who was supposed to set an example for you. Then RUN!

Yes, this is the kind of thing I’d expect to hear from Hitler or bin Laden, rather than some average guy. I mean, whoa, what heinousness and downright gravity is communicated through such a phrase? He clearly should be shot.

Fuck’s sake, if I said “I bet all the news is about tonight is that dumbass sniper who got caught for being retarded” and was belted down like whoever’s Dad, I’d be cut. Overreact much? A simple statement about how the media gets their asses onto whatever tragedy of the moment is happening, and maybe being a bit insensitive about a dead guy, gets you this kind of response? I’m all for fighting ignorance, but you don’t need to napalm it and then piss on the ashes.

It was not a simple statement, and it was not “a bit” insensitive; it was offensive. It always amazes me when people make rude remarks like what SpazCat’s dad said, or your projected remark, and then claim to be “cut” (I assume that means offended) when people object.

SC’s dad obviously doesn’t care how Wellstone’s surviving family or constituents feel; why should we be careful of his feelings?

Well… did they?

Thank you. People are too sensitive around here.

Just because he’s already heard the news story and doesn’t want or need his entire news hour filled with the same item does not make him a “fuckwit”. His wager might make him a cynic, however.

Calling Wellstone a “stupid democrat” after his passing? Insensitive perhaps, but insensitivity and intelligence are not mutually exclusive. (I speak from experience)

This P.C. thing is getting out of hand.

If you think that’s bad, try reading this:

“PC” has nothing to do with it, btw. People here have every right to be upset about what is obviously a stupid statement.

He set a fine example for me. He showed me that all political parties are corrupt and that the only way to go is independent. Or, if anybody reads Doug Robarchek in the Charlotte Observer (http://www.charlotte.com) (too lazy to find the specific link right now) a “Radical Moderate.”

The biggest difference between us is politics. And laundry management, but that’s another story.

As I have observed Esprix comment many times, what some people call “P.C.”, others call “being polite.” I am so sick of people complaining about everyone being too P.C., when all people want is for these morons to behave with the slightest bit of common decency. If someone wants their ethnic group to be called by one moniker instead of another, fucking be polite and do it! It’s not “P.C.”! It’s called respect!

GUESS WHAT? Talking shit about someone right after they died is not actually acceptable behavior! You’re not being politically incorrect by being rude - you’re being a fucking moron who needs to learn manners.

what Kyla said…

Wow… that shows where my knowledge of current events are. I thought Spaz’ dad was talking about that Kennedy guy.
