Okay, based on the new information, I would say don’t mention anything to Fred. If he takes a new job without researching it properly, that’s his business. If he’s looking for a new job based on embarrassing info on him coming out, he needs to either go talk to his supervisor about it, act like nothing ever happened and keep his fingers crossed, or just go work somewhere else.
Yeah, that would be about it.

I did manage to draw Fred (and another coworker) into conversation. We chatted around and we started joking about things we could do to get fired so we could collect unemployment. And then I worked in “Well, you know Boss wouldn’t fire anyone for something personal, so it would have to involve a customer or something. Maybe if I started using an airhorn on the telephone…”
He might know something’s up, but I didn’t come right out so we both have plausible deniability.
