You know what would be a great message board feature. . .

You know how you “mouse over” the title and it gives you a blurb. (Some of you might be reading this in such a fashion right now.)

Well, you also know how when you mouse over the little arrow to the right of the last poster and it says “go to last post”.

What if mousing over that arrow instead gave you a blurb from the last post?

I’d never open another thread in vain, I tell ya.

Using the SDMB would be even more irritating than it already is. I hate those popups and wish we could have a vote whether to keep or ditch them.

Why do they annoy you so, Lobsang?

I mean, I don’t care for the last-post thing too much, but those popups are so useful, especially when someone posts a title like “If anyone cares…”.

Because when I’m not interested in the contents of threads more than 2 thirds of my screen is one big ‘hotspace’ for these popups. I want to be able to ‘rest’ my mouse cursor anywhere without having to see one of those popups.

Also, I tend to use my cursor as a visual focus ‘pointer’ (a bit like when people use their finger to guide their eyes while reading something) so everywhere the cursor and thus my eyes go, one of them damn popups appears. I am trying to read thread titles but all I see is the popup.
I’d be happy if the sensetivity area for them were reduced so that I don’t have to move my cursor right over to the right hand side of the screen when viewing forum pages.

Sure, the last post idea is good, but what’s even better is the verb “to mouse”

Brilliant!

To keep the popup blurb from blocking following (lower down) titles, I house my mouse up nearer the top of the screen, or at least above the titles I want to read.
Solves that problem. I like the blurbs, as I have dial up and that way I don’t have to wait to open a thread and then wait to close it, if it doesn’t interest me.

And if you think “to mouse” is cute, er, brilliant, have you heard of us being mouse potatoes?
