You know who looks best on the SD People Pages?

techchick68, there has to be some reason. Are you married, engaged or similarly encumbered? Were you a man until recently and just had that $20,000 operation done in Amsterdam? Something like that would turn some guys away… but not me! If you are ever in Washington DC (it’s the nation’s capital you know?) let me know and I will issue a formal invitation (so long as the date budget is under the aforementioned figure of $20,000).

Well, it seems like my OP has been sufficiently morphed from it’s original purpose.

The OP was just to say that I’ve seen most of you for the first time, and I think everyone is looking pretty good in my eyes. Also, the pages are well done, and now that Geocities is acting better they are very easy to use. That’s all. I’m just expressing how much I like everyone.

The only reason I brought up TC’s picture was to try and let people know what I might look like IRL if things were a little different for me.

I only even mentioned it because I am constantly asked again and again via this board, e-mail, and chat to post a picture of myself or to include one on the People Pages. I’m not going to post a picture of myself, for at least 3 good reasons. Even if these reasons didn’t exist I still would not just for privacy reasons alone. Maybe if I looked like a Techchick, pepperlandgirl, Hamadryad, VogueVixen, Falcon, evilbeth, Welfy, or Mega I would. But I don’t.

If I keep getting asked repeatedly ever time I’m in chat why I don’t have a picture, and I keep getting e-mails from horny guys who want to see me (and believe me, you DON’T) then I will disappear. No melodrama, no weepy “final” post, no blatant appeal for people to “beg” me not to go, all of which we’ve seen so many times before. I will just vanish like a ghost in the fog, and I can go back to not having any friends again. Ask pepperlandgirl if you don’t think I will. Fun, fun, silly-willy.

Una Persson

“who, if she had about $20,000 of cosmetic surgery and lost 50 pounds, would probably most
resemble the very beautiful Techchick68 as seen on the SD People Pages”
I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not.

Maybe I’m just dense, but why?

Handy, I usually ignore your mostly off-topic oneliners, but what the hell is that supposed to mean? Please man, read the rest of the thread: you’ll see that your remark is very ill-timed to say the least.

Thanks Coldfire (who appears to Una to be a handsome and mysterious-looking man, with somewhat scary eyes!)

Hmm, I’m gorgeous, but not that much. Well, time to move on.

Dear Mr. Coldfire, you may see words, but I see pictures. My life is pictures, visual items. One forms words into pictures. If I said I would look like you if I got a $15,000 face lift, that would imply you might have had a $15,000 facelift; but you have to be kinda old like me before you’ll see things like that. It doesn’t really matter because you can see that Tech is gorgeous.

Thank you handy.

Where’s your picture?

OK, who opened this thread hoping to see their name in the OP? Not me of course, I’m the non-assuming type.

Anthracite, I’m sorry to hear about your car accident. I don’t want to be impolite, but I think it’s a shame that you are so self-derogatory. Desire for privacy is one thing, but it seems that your main fear is that people won’t find you beautiful. On this board, I’ve noticed that the SDMB denizens value the other members for the intelligence of their posts more than for their good looks. Far be it from me to try to convince you to post a picture if such is not your desire, but please don’t be self-conscious about your appearance.

I’m with Arnold on this Anthacite.

BTW, in the AOL crowd I run around with there are people of all types. Never once have I, personally, ever felt that anyone was less than beautiful unless their person sucks.

Your words are kind and I bet your physical self is just as kind.

Do what is most comfortable for you though. If you do happen to send Shayna and me a picture, we would be more than happy to work with you on your page.

Fair enough mate. It’s just that you didn’t seem to imply that Techchick was gorgeous. Not that you should automatically be of THAT opinion. But hey, it was a misunderstanding. And believe me, nobody needs a $15000 face lift to look like me. A few years of Jack Daniels and Belgian beers will do the same, plus you’ll have more fun along the way

Anthracite, I used to be self-conscious about my appearance. Still am, some, but not as much since I worked with a woman who had been beautiful, but had been caught in a fire. She was making a company-wide video and asked me to participate. I tried to beg off, but she stopped me by saying, “Look, if I’m willing to be on-camera for this, you have no excuses.” Shut me up because I realized that it wasn’t a beauty contest but was fun for the whole group who already liked us, however we looked.

After saying that I have to apologize for not having submitted my own picture. I no longer have access to a digital camera nor a scanner, but that is subject to change. We’ll need both at work, and maybe I’d like one at home.

Is it possible my OP was edited at some time after posting? I still have the Word doc I copy and paste from so I can spell-check, and it does not say “beatiful”, it says “beautiful”. Very strange, or else I copied and pasted and edited myself somehow? Any moderators, is there a way to tell if my post was edited after posting?

Just to clarify, I’m not even hinting a moderator or admin changed it. I don’t know how the board works that well, and I’m pretty sure I posted “beautiful” - I just wanted to know if it was possible if someone other than a mod had the ability to change it, or did I just mess it up.

And handy, I understand what you are saying, however I explained exactly what I meant w.r.t. TC’s attractiveness well before you made your first post to this thread.

Umm, no. Since the upgrade, the new software automatically adds a footnote to all edited posts. It shows the editor’s name and the time edited. I don’t have an explanation unless spell-check was run after you C&P’ed. It’s a puzzler.

Just below is a sample of the automated edited post footnote.

You poor thing. It seems like this thread somehow sparked a sea of confusion and miscommunication. I understood the complimentary intent of your remarks, as I think most of the others did as well.

It sounds like you have many friends and supporters here, Anthracite. I’m sure they all want what’s best for you, and for you to do what’s comfortable for you.

We all understand your self-effacement. We all feel that way about some aspect of ourselves. Our only recourse, if we want to help each other, is not to reproach each other but to be gentle with each other. Maybe in the light of one another’s gentleness we will find strength to share ourselves, and hope for acceptance, where before we found only self-doubt and sadness.

Okay, I really need to send in a picture now.

dammit…if only everyone looked like me
