Id my name appears at the top of my posts, how come half the time you people can’t get it right?

Seems like the posters who complain about it are the ones with the problem. Especially the more irrational complaints.
I’m too lazy to do this, but it would be interesting to go through post histories and see where the people who want to control how others post stand on issues like drug legalization, second amendment rights, breastfeeding in public, off-leash dogs, smoking on the street, and so on. Is the complaint about how other people write their posts just one example of a general urge to crack down on what other people are doing, or is it the only area where they feel that urge?
Good point.
Fine. Then we know the reason is that you intentionally want to annoy other posters.
I think I’ll go cool off now…
No you suspect (wrongly) that this is what I want to do. I have signed my posts for almost all the 10 years I’ve been a member here and this is the FIRST time I’ve seen a complaint about it. I don’t want attention, I don’t want to annoy, and what you wrote about me is damned unfair.
Until it’s made an official rule not to do so, I’ll keep doing it, my friends can do it or not, and those of you who are annoyed, feel free to ignore me.
madmonk23: Thanks but I can do plenty wrong. Repeatedly as well.
Thanks

Quasi, don’t worry about the people who complain about how you end your posts. Let 'em complain. You (and everyone else who puts a signoff at the ends of your posts) have the rules on your side:
You can do a simple signoff of the form:
[complimentary close - optional]
[your name]… at the end of each post. By “complimentary close” we mean some brief valedictory such as “regards,” “peace,” etc. Please don’t push the envelope.
If that’s the biggest thing some people have to complain about in their lives, they don’t know how lucky they are. It doesn’t bug me, and it adds a warmer touch to all of your posts. Keep on keepin’ on.

cochrane
Alright, I’ll come clean. The sole reason I sign my posts is that I like to create some speculation about the mmm, which can be interpreted in any number of ways (until a light goes on over someone’s head and he or she realizes it is merely initials).
I think I’ll reach over now and grab one of those Hershey Kisses.

So what happens if that part gets quoted? Does the whole board see the change?
'Scuse my underwear,

You know, I just tested that, and it does show up changed in the reply window. So if you’re quoting someone who uses one of your filtered phrases you’ll want to either change it back to the original text or delete it entirely before hitting submit or the mods will get on you for modifying someone’s quote. If it’s just a signoff phrase, there’s not really a good reason to leave it there anyway.
I guess I just never quoted someone who used one of my filter phrases before.
I’m going to start signing off with names that aren’t mine, which will change from time to time.

I’m actually kind of impressed that folks like Shodan manage to remember to put their little tag on the end of every. single. post.
I tried posting in haikus for a while but I lost interest. I am in awe of their sticktoitiveness.

For those using reasoning for signing their posts as “I don’t know, I have just always done it since I’ve been here, you can ignore me if you want to”, make about as much sense as persons not signing their posts because “I don’t know, I just have never done it so I don’t do it, you can ignore me if you want to”.
I mean there are several high quality posters/contributors who regularly sign their posts - it just seems pompous to me. It’s not that the posters themselves seem pompous, just the act of signing their posts since in the very least it’s redundant to do so.
So what is the real reason to sign one’s post except “it’s tradition”?

^^ Why does that cause such a giggle?
