You know your username goes at the top of every post, right?

Turn your keyboard upside down and look in a mirror while you type.

My recollection was that after the last time we had this topic, the mods decided they were going to enforce a one signoff per thread rule, but that they quickly gave up. Apparently it is now perfectly kosher to signoff after every single post. Signoffs used to bother me quite a lot, but I’ve gotten over it. I don’t even notice them any more.

Yeah, if you’re bothered or offended by them, it really says a lot more about you.

The real reason people sign their posts/don’t like people who sign their posts is because they all hate America and want to take away our Freedom! And Liberty.
Freedom!

And shit.

Nice!

Hm. I thought he was just drunk.

It took me a long time to break the habit of using my little ten character (plus two spaces) signoff that’s at the end of this post. When I signed up for the SDMB, I’d been typing it so long it was automatic. I didn’t even notice myself doing it.

We drew a distinction between signoffs (e.g., the one I’m going to use on this post) and sigs, which can be up to four lines of stuff, including a link if you’re a paid member. We ask that you use your sig no more than once per thread, but it’s an etiquette thing, not a rule enforced by jackbooted thugs.

Basic signoffs, on the other hand, are typically just a couple of words. Honestly, there’s such a tiny number of people who care that we never saw the need to make a rule against them. Etiquette says that you shouldn’t use a long signoff typed into the posting to try to get around the “once per thread” guideline, but if it’s just “sincerely, Bill” who cares?

Oh, hell, I just can’t resist.

No, I am Walmarticus!

Nope, he cheated. He put it in the edit box. Doesn’t count.

Are those NIPPLES?

Now you’ve brought me to a question -

We are not supposed to post while drunk / under the influence / etc…

What if you write your post sober, go toss a few, then hit reply. Is that wrong?

How about the other way?

A home fundraiser with Sarah where a declawing AND circumcision happen concurrently is almost too much to hope for.

Almost.

Huh? I don’t see it, and nobody has ever mentioned that in 29 years of signing emails that way. Are you using an odd font?

This post has been flipped by the flipper!

Properly used, a good signature can add something to your post that extends beyond the words you wrote.

Sorta back on topic-- As far as I can tell, in North America one can now tell who is over or under 40 years-old by their having a smallpox vaccine scar on their arm or not.

Folks who remember what a real Usenet .sig is? Almost exactly ten years younger.

Everyone else needs to get the fuck off of my lawn. Or show me the nipple font.

So many memories.
