Yes, I was saying ICE-lynn and ICE-lip but heard “Is-lynn” for the former from a couple of people down there. Here we go for the latter. Islip (no e, whoops) = EIS-lip.
That brings up the next question, how do you pronounce EIS, I would say Ice.
I was wondering about the “e” in Islip before.
Yeah, I thought of that…I’m German-extracted so I would tend to go with Ice (s-sound) rather than Eyes (z-sound) but I would think EI = an eye sound??
From South Jersey:
You drink “Drink a Toast” aka “Boost”.
You know Jersey’s got the best hoagies and pizza, but Philly still has the best cheese steaks.
Nothing beats a Jersey tomato.
Nothing beats Jersey corn.
You put an extraneous “R” at the end of words: Umbrellar, Idear…
You say “yoos guys”
You need to put that through a spell check. You misspelled subs.
Shhh, humor him, he is from South Jersey, he doesn’t know better.
Whadya mean? You mean when you want to drink a toast, you yell “Drinkatoast”?
And “Boost”? Whadya, stealing someone else’s drink when their head is turned?
Ok I won’t tell him that’s not really Jersey.
They only drink this?
And, of course, people from Jersey know that North Brunswick is actually south of New Brunswick.

Like Moonachie, you’re hardcore Jersey if you know the correct pronunciation of Bernardsville.
If you were born in 201, you think people from 609 are “just a little different.”
You used to get your school clothes at Great Eastern, Two Guys, or Robert Hall.
And for you old timers, you knew exactly what the sailor at the top of the Flagship was spelling with those flags (the more vulgar the response, the better).
