Damn, it appears we a re compatible. What’s your sign? Mine’s LOOOOOOOVIN’!
That didn’t work out at all like I had planned…
I would join in, but I’ve been on here too long…
You’ve been on the SDMB too long when…
…you start referring to your beer drinking uncle as Unclebeer.
…you actually can remember Cecil making a post.
…you go to a BBQ and you start flaming people.
… you wonder about a thread’s progress when you are in your car.
(daily)…when people ask you if the Straight Dope Message Board screen is a screen saver.
…you know who the vague troll references are about.
…someone asks how your day was and you have to bite your tongue to keep from filling them in on SDMB news.
…you dream about posting.
guilt-ridden I thought I was the only one…
…you start introducing yourself IRL by your username
…you try to use special smileys (
 ;j   :wally) in e-mails
…you get offended when no-one responds to your posts
…you spend three hours trying to find the “perfect signature line”

Oh, hell.
Your contribution to any conversation with your SO begins with … “There was a thread about that on the board today.”
I do this to my wife all the time.
You have to use the cadence of “this one time, at band camp” from American Pie to get the full effect.

I’m always telling my hubby about various things I have read on the SDMB. My ultimate goal, of course, is to eventually talk him into becoming a member of our exclusive clique. I even managed to get him to attend a Dopefest earlier this year with me, but I have had no luck in talking him into attending another one.
My dreams involve trying to post something, but for some strange reason, the post disappears just as I’m pushing the “Submit Reply” button.
You really know you have been spending too much time on the SDMB is when you start having sexual fantasies about fellow posters.
I, too, dream about posting. My conversations with my husband also start “Someone started a thread about…”.
… you spontaneously come up with titles for your RL conversations.
When at work they decide to do a quote of the week, for fun, and you find yourself thinking that may be a good sig line.
I find my self using “smilies” in emails, at work, all the time…and I didn’t realize I was doing it until someone had to ask what " : ) " was.
You stay at work late to finish reading a thread.
I woke up early (sister-in-law called with a computer question.
About 11:00 I fell asleep for about two hours and Rikki Lake (or whatever her name is) was on.
I don’t recall all the details but we had a Dopefest in New York, we all were invited to her show. After we enjoyed food and a party in which she was there as well.
I would say I qualify as “too much SDMB and too much TV”.
< grin >
I, too, dreamed about posting to the boards this morning. I think it was a thread about finding money on the street. Anyway, as I was typing my reply, I said something like “I’d make a longer post if I didn’t have to wake up right now and go to school.” I pressed the reply button and re-read my thread, and that sentence came out as “Wake up, you idiot!” And, well, I did.
I also use the phrase “…there’s this one thread on the Straight Dope that talks about that.” I even had an hour-long near-monologue to a couple of my friends telling them about some of the quirky behavior y’all have, and some examples of threads and posts.
Needless to say, the SDMB is the most exciting thing in my life right now. God, I’m a loser…
How about being completely befuddled when you can’t sign on to your computer at work using your screenname? (I just knew I was using the right password!)

…when you know what you’re about to post is mundane and pointless but you post it anyway.
…when you have second thoughts about posting your mundane and pointless thoughts but, since you know no one on the SDMB can distinguish mundanity from cleverness, you post it anyway.
…when you realize you have gratuitously insulted all the other Dopers and post it anyway.
…when you post just to increase your post count.
