Personally, I like AIM, but I just reinstalled Yahoo and I rather liked it for the brief time I used it.
Of course, now that I’ve suddenly got a few more folks messaging me, I’m about to be off-line until next Wednesday. Sorry - gotta help my sweetie move the boat. I might be on Monday if we can get the laptop on the boat configured for sob dialup. No cable service available at the new marina. No fair. <pout>
I have to say that I’m the opposite - I hate when people IM me now (well, ok hate is too harsh a word - it just kind of annoys me). I used to be such a huge Net addict and I was on all the time - these days, I am on only when Emofkuniv and I talk which is maybe for about an hour or 90 minutes at night but not every night (as we usually are on the phone more often than not!).
What I’m trying to say is that my time with him is so little on the net, I don’t like when other people IM me just for a little chat - ok if it was something urgent or some big news or something, that’s fine, but not for a Hi how are you sort of chat.
Guess we’re just wrapped up in each other - mmmmmmmmm nice thought that
I know what you mean, Honeydew - I use IM to talk to my husband and save on phone bills. But if he and I are conversing, I just put up an away message on other programs, or I tell folks I’m busy.
No one’s egged my house so far! I guess I just talk with resaonable people.
If you don’t have a Yahoo account, but you do have an MSN account, why do you have the icon for the former, and not the latter? Just curious… And you can IM me anytime!
Well, those icons appear in your posts only if you’ve put the appropriate screen name in your profile (i.e., an entry in the Yahoo field will make the Yahoo icon appear). FCM just downloaded Yahoo Messenger and apparently also updated her profile, so the icon is now there.
However, vB does not have a field for MSN Messenger, so there’s no icon for it.
And of course, after I say that, I see the icon on Dolores’s post. Sooooo… never mind. The correct answer is that FCM hasn’t entered her MSN name into the proper field.
Actually, I’ve entered my username there repeatedly, but it never seems to stick. I suspect a conspiracy. But, big surprise, my username is FairyChatMom. The only place it isn’t FairyChatMom is on ICQ, where I’m michelle, all lower case. That account is older than my nickname, so I didn’t change it.
I had a lovely chat yesterday with Tanookie. She introduced me to the evil that is Shockwave and I was up until 1am playing Bookworm.
I hope to return the favor one day.
BTW, Tanookie, I cut out when my computer freezed up on me. And then the kids started a rebellion and it was downhill after that. I’m sure you understand.
Of course I understand Around here I swear the munchkin girl gets everyone together at 2:00am to synchronize their watches and then right when I think all is settled for a few minutes - She needs something, the boy wants a bottle, the dog needs out and the cats all go ballistic!
I also had a lovely chat with FairyChatMom last night and discovered the evil that is “Bounce Symphony” at the shockwave site
One clever Doper initiated a chat asking if I wanted to talk about sex!!
Obviously a comedian who pays attention to what I write. Or a stalker. Hmmmm, guess I better double lock my doors at night.
tanookie, I enjoyed chatting with you also. Things got a little overwhelming when I had half a dozen windows open at once. I was further confused by one who addressed me familiarly, but I had no idea who it was. Turns out it was a random whacko, non-Doper. So I got rid of him.
I was also trying to talk to my husband, but he was very tired last night and he kept falling asleep at the computer, so I didn’t feel too bad for sorta neglecting that conversation.
I’d just like to point out at this juncture that that was not me!
BTW, I’ve got an icon in my toolbar on my (relatively) new computer that calls itself ‘windows messenger’. I assume it’s another messeging program. Does anyone use that? Or is that another name for one of the programs already mentioned?
I never get IMs. The only people I have on my list are family and friends who never seem to be online at the same time I am. I am always up for meeting new friends and getting to know people. I love to talk and anyone I know can tell you that. I don’t get to spend as much time on the computer as I would like to because my SO is always on it, so when I am, I like to talk to other people. I am pretty much a homebody so it is nice to talk to new people ever now and again.
I IM’d FairyChatMom and got an autoreply that she was gone to dinner…A likely story. She probably saw me sign on and immediately put her autoreply on. ::sniff::
