Yes, I believe that smoking has the potential to be hazardous to your health – but then so does alcohol, if carried beyond a certain level.
No, I don’t believe that second hand smoke is anywhere as hazardous as they are proclaiming.
(Side note: Some years back, it was determined that cooking meat over an open fire causes cancer and that the smoke was hazardous to one’s health. Nothing changed. An interesting thing is that one may dispose of ashes from a natural wood or natural coal fire as fertilizer but if you use commercial charcoal briquettes, you may not. It seems that the commercial products contain heavy metals and chemicals that can leach into vegetables and eventually into you.
However, no one has yet done much of a study to determine if any of the millions of pounds of commercial charcoal briquettes cause cancer through smoke or fumes – separately that is. They are lumped into the study previously mentioned.)
I like to do a lot of meat smoking, but I use aged wood that I cut from Oak along with pounds of Hickory chips soaked in clean water.

Just last night I was giving a smoker-friend of mine a ride when just the smoke in his clothes made my lungs ache.
(Exasperated look on face) MEGA! You probably are allergic to cigarette smoke, which is a whole other thing entirely.
I have friends that are allergic to tobacco smoke so I take precautions when I visit them or they me. Even to the extent of having an air filter running when they drop in and then I smoke outside so as not to bother them. Even so, they don’t gripe, complain, piss and moan about smokers, knowing that the allergy is something they have that most others don’t.
If they go somewhere that they might have a reaction to the smoke, they take medication instead of demanding that everyone else stop smoking. Just like people who have other forms of allergies do.
So now you are diagnosing Mega’s condition over a MB!
Maybe it’s just that the smoke is nasty and it makes her lungs ache because it’s nasty. (I dunno, I’m no doctor, neither are you.) Maybe…oh…but we don’t want to learn that. We don’t want to learn that second-hand smoke is really as nasty as they say. Never mind. Whew. That was a close call. Might’ve actually learned something there.

People without sensitivity to tobacco smoke do not get pains in their lungs just from the scent clinging to clothing. People with allergies might. Even if MEGA is not allergic to the smoke, her own, obvious loathing to the product could very well trigger psychosomatic symptoms.
I don’t like cigars and I recall having to deal with people who smoked them exclusively and I could smell the smoke on their clothing, in their offices and in their homes and found it distasteful but found no reason to bitch about it. I found it often trying to be in a lengthy meeting with several cigar smokers as the atmosphere in the room turned gray and was relieved to escape into the clean air later, plus noticed that my clothing reeked from the stronger smoke, but I didn’t gripe incessantly about it.
You fanatics go on a cause celeb over the slightest whiff of the stuff. How about bitching about automotive exhausts – which are deadlier but the mega political pull of car makers aligned with oil companies have managed to keep that little tidbit down and out of sight, mostly.

Not because of his posting count, not by how long he’s been here, but by the ideas and thoughts that he has shared. But you wouldn’t know about that, you haven’t been here that long. Why is it that no one else here has taken him to task, only you have? Because so many of us here know him. We respect him. You…you are an unknown quantity at this point.
