So I had the ceiling fan on in the bedroom last night, a window fan somewhat pointed at the bed, delayed going to bed until 1.30-ish so I was pretty tired and, oddly enough, I survived. I did wake up at 6.30, but managed to nap for a few more minutes.
Now the fun and games of getting a repair person starts.
Our a/c has been out too. It’s been above 90 degrees here lately, but inside it’s closer to 120! Our windows face only north and south (apartment) so we can’t even get a good breeze going. Our maintenance people suck big fat shitty ASS, and normally it’d take them two weeks to fix any problem we had (like last summer when our dishwasher spewed water all over and leaked through to the people downstairs.) But I guess there’s lots of people here having the same problem as us - the a/c blows moderately cool air at intermittent intervals, at a force barely above a baby’s breath. I fgure by November they may have come to look at it.
It’s not so much me I’m worried about as the Bubster. He’s got heat rash like crazy, and can’t understand why it’s so damn hot.
I feel you. My car’s AC is dead. I live in Texas. My commute one way to work is about 45 minutes with one between 9 and 10 and one between 7 and 8.
It’ll cost more to fix the AC on that thing than it cost me to buy the (admittedly old and creaky) car in the first place. Luckily I’ve been approved for a car loan and I have my eye on a used Scion xB, but I don’t need car payments now on top of everything else… and while I scrape up the down payment I am sweating. Should take about a month.
Well no maintenance is possible till Friday. And the weather might not break till the weekend, though we may storm tomorrow night.
So, on the drive home last night, I passed a Best Buy. I am now cheating on my central AC system with a cute little window unit. She doesn’t offer me all the central one does, but she is great in the bedroom, if you know what I mean.
We have AC but it’s not working like it should. The condenser is only five years old so it’s probably the blower, which is most likely original equipment like the previous condenser. 'Course the guy who installed the new condenser didn’t exactly know what he was doing.
At least the DC heat wave is supposed to break tomorrow.
I work for a heating and air conditioning company and we’re swamped with calls. It was 96 yesterday and today is going to be the same. The dispatchers were here at the office until 9:00 last night and one of the service techs said he’s going to have 90 hours this week. That is some nice OT. Since I’m the finance manager, it doesn’t affect me like it does others, but it’s absolutely nuts here.
The dispatchers have had several new assholes ripped since yesterday morning. People with no AC are cranky! However, probably not as cranky as the guys putting a new roof on my house were yesterday. I feel bad for those guys.
Now they’re predicting severe thunderstorms this evening, so I may join the ranks of the cranky folks if we lose power–which seems to happen if there’s so much as a gentle breeze.
That has always bothered me since I was a kid. A heater is an air conditioner that happens to be restriced to changing the air to the condition of being hotter.
I also hate air conditioners being sold by BTU. BTU makes me think of being on a grill. Someone should invent a universal unit of cooling.
