In the South, with no AC.
Motherboard inj HVAC died.
Tech may or may not be able to jury-rig a temp fix.
But a new motherboard may take 2 months to get here from China.
My sympathies. Ours just died during a heat wave. Indoor temps 29.5° C (85° F) which is too much for me. 2 months is ridiculous.
Do you have an unusual or complicated HVAC system? Those control units should be readily available. There’s certainly lots of people in the US who have the same model. You should do some searching on your own to find one. Or call around to HVAC companies and ask if they can replace the control module in your brand.
Find out the exact model number of the board and see if one is available on Ebay or Amazon.
Check with another HVAC company or two also .
Two months in the summer is insane.
In the meantime, can you buy a small window unit to keep one room cool at least? That way you have a refuge.

Yes, this. Get a window unit to cool your bedroom, and just move in there. If the window(s) isn’t/aren’t suitable, then there are stand-alone units. Good to have one of those on hand anyway.
ETA: Target, Walmart, or Home Depot are good bets.
Excellent point, the only reason I don’t, is I can retreat to the basement to cool off if my Central Air unit fails. It takes a lot for it to heat up.
I’d ask another company for a second opinion, unless you really trust this one. The biggest fail on the compressor unit is usually just a capacitor, which can be easily replaced.
Yeah, we mostly don’t have basements in the south…
This is actually a health hazard.
If all else fails…hotel room, family who welcomes you, a public cooling place?
Good luck.
That sounds like BS to me.
I’d call another HVAC company immediately.
I agree. Is the A/C some obscure brand? Any responsible manufacturer should maintain a local inventory of spare parts. Failing that, there’s no reason a small control board could not be put in a FedEx envelope and arrive in 1 or 2 days.
I have mini splits in my old house. Just today I was taking them apart to clean the blower and coils. Pro-tip - don’t wait until summer to do this.
I 3rd the 2nd opinion. In my rental house I had a motor go out in my unit. First guy had to get the part, it was going to be $3K for the part and labor. 2nd guy ran to the parts place to get the part immediately, and charged $1500 all told.
ETA - I have a local HVAC guy. PM me if you want his number.

Any competant repair person should have a way to get parts quicker than 2 months.
That’s nuts.
I know stuff gets back ordered and it is the height of the season. 2 months is ridiculous.
Yeah, call around.

No can do.
I have doors, not windows.
Board made in China.
And local stocks are a thing of the past.
Supply lines, with no warehousing.
Great idea, until a ship goes aground in a canal, or Trump.

I find that hard to believe. Carrier, for instance, implies that their dealers will either have the part you need or can get it from their warehouse. And here’s a site where you can search for third-party OEM parts including circuit boards (for Carrier, but just an example). I would be totally gobsmacked if the circuit board you need did not currently exist anywhere in the USA, regardless of your A/C brand.
Speaking of Carrier, if the difficulty with sourcing this board is because the A/C is old, and not just because this particular service company is too lazy to bother expediting it, and no one else can help, you might give some consideration to getting a new unit. It’s not necessarily as crazy as it may sound. In a previous house, I had issues almost every year with an old A/C unit. I eventually gave up and found a good deal on a new Carrier unit. The installers hauled away the old piece of shit and installed a brand new unit that worked like a charm. It was a great decision that undoubtedly saved me money in the long run. It certainly saved me an enormous amount of hassle.
Something’s not adding up. HVAC systems are relatively simple. The control units aren’t that complicated. Even if board from your particular manufacturer wasn’t available, there should be many compatible control units which will work with your particular system. In addition, it wouldn’t make sense for the control boards to be so hard to get. It would be pretty crazy for them to have to custom order one from China every time one went out. When stock gets low, the manufacturer should proactively order more.
One reason to call around to other HVAC service companies is that companies generally install certain brands. So if you have a Carrier unit, call up some local HVAC companies which deal with Carriers. They are more likely to have the parts on hand than if you called up a company which mostly deals with some other AC manufacturer.
So…unsolvable. I see.

I have doors, not windows
What does this mean, exactly? You have no windows at all…?
If you have sliding doors or windows anywhere in the house, you should be able to get a freestanding air conditioner and a sliding door vent kit.
For the control board, have you checked online for aftermarket compatible parts? Maybe you can buy it yourself somewhere faster and have the guy replace it for you?
UPDATE The Owner of the firm came in person on a Saturday, & rewired the old motherboard for a temporary fix.
New motherboard will arrive in 1 to 2 weeks.
