I wouldn’t assume that. I’ve seen people with good upbringings, fine parents/sibs, turn out jerks. Also people who seem to come from the scum of the earth be saints. It isn’t just the upbringing (tho it helps).
All the people who have called you a hero are absolutely right. Few people have the kind of follow-through which you have demonstrated. When I think about how to improve myself as a person, it is wonderful people like you whom I bring to mind and try to emulate.

After all that has happened to me this week (which I will refrain from talking about, as it has no place whatsoever in here), I feel as if a great weight were lifted from my shoulders. Just read this thread for the first time. Anyone who saves the life of an innocent is a hero in my book. You could so easily have just bypassed the whole situation for the sake of not getting involved.
That you didn’t speaks of remarkable character. Would that more had even a smidgeon of your courage and compassion. Bravo!
