But every. single. time. that rejecting bigotry is mentioned, you call it “intolerance.” There seems to be no way to refute bigoted comments without you calling the refuter a bigot in turn.
How do you propose that someone should respond to openly expressed racism or homophobia?
And the best description of Liberals posting style goes to…what, no drum roll? Fine, it goes to Liberal. Let’s all give him a big round of raspberries all around
So wait, Alias’ dislike of a person based upon beliefs and behavior that the person has exhibited makes her just as much of a bigot as the person involved I suppose as long as it makes sense in your little world. :dubious:
Ah, your trademark wit shows itself. Time to fight back with a handy Simpsons quote.
“Rawr Rawr Rawr. Nobody understands you she-bear.”
Keep 'em coming Lib, you’re almost making sense.
Ooh oooh oooh, I know raises hand and waves it frantically
I can see it now.
Liberal: You sir or madam, are a bigoted ignorant bastard and I have an intense dislike for you, but you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that.
I propose this: respond in any way you please, just don’t assume any moral high ground. It’s the price a man pays for standing up for his principles — he must apply them to himself as well. Consider when I have been asked whether libertarianism allows me to interfere with my anarchy neighbor when he is abusing his child. The answer is no, it does not. But as I always say, I will interfere anyway, rescue the child, and accept the rightful consequences that befall me.
Just because you have discovered that someone else is a bigot does not mean that in so doing you have wiped your own slate clean. What I’m saying is to have the moral courage to own up to what you are doing. I’m not saying don’t call people bigots; I’m saying be willing to take what you dish out. So what if I open myself to a charge of bigotry by denouncing every Klansman out there? Fine. I’m a bigot. But that won’t stop me from expressing my opinion. When you take a sword into battle, you can’t say, “Hey, no fair stabbing me!”
Dish out your medicine, and when it’s thrown back in your face, swallow it with pride. When a man is willing to get his own face dirty in a dirt slinging match, then the spectators will judge who is dirtier than whom. But if he cries out to the crowd, “Look how clean I am and how dirty my opponent is!” while his own face is caked in mud, only those who already are his allies can hold a straight face.
You must decide whether you want to preach to the choir or change the hearts of those who oppose you.The bigot already knows you are bigoted against him. Stop fighting that non-battle so that you can go after what matters. So long as you keep up a pretense of moral superiority, he does not fear you. But when knows that you know that you are as bigoted as he, he will listen to you. Until then, you are tilting at windmills.
Bigotry and prejudice are not evil in se. What matters is *what * we prejudge. Take a stand and don’t back down. Otherwise, you are yielding ALL the turf. You must protect what is right, and you must be bigoted against what is wrong.
Alias, not getting involved with anything else in this thread, just letting you know that you CAN treat an ectopic pregnancy conservatively if the woman isn’t suffering from heavy internal bleeding and the tube hasn’t ruptured. It’s not always a surical emergency. So you co-worker MAY be telling the truth there. Possibly.
