You think kittens are cute? Look at this!

A charter fishing boat in a lake in southwest Louisianna spotted this new born, albino dolphin. Because the white skin is translucent, and it hasn’t put on a layer of blubber yet, its surface vasculature is visible, making it pink!

I actually find that more “trippy” than “cute”.

Cute? Cute?!?!

More like the first sign of the upcoming dolphin uprising.

I, for one, welcome our new Cetaceous overlords!

We are about to get a payback for the slaves at Sea World.

On a more earnest note, don’t these things end up getting sunburned? Is that a possible source for some of the pink?

Pink. It must be a girl. Let us know when you see one in powder blue.

It is trippy.

Hope the poor thing isn’t subject to sunburn…

First, it was white alligators. Now white dolphins. What’s in the water - bleach?

Baby dolphin is very cute.

For the record, I grew up in Louisiana, so I can mock it all I want.

I saw this and kind of rolled my eyes, but you’re really right! It is kind of more trippy…weird.

It likely won’t live long. It is subject to sunburn, plus, it’s a glowing, pink target for predators.
:frowning:

How interesting! It does seem like an albino would be at a major disadvantage in the wild, but hopefully its pod will be able to protect it from predators.

Do its predators see in color?

They see the difference between light colors and dark colors. Lack of camouflage makes them more visible, whether the predator sees color or not.

I just made an embarrassing high-pitched noise in the middle of the library and now I’ve got three or four students staring at me. Thanks a lot.
