Your attention please, Snow Demons: Enough is enough.

You’re describing my current experience, only I wimp out some and ride the bus at times. I did today. I decided that walking in the cold was preferable to killing the car. I’ll decide about tomorrow in the morning.

My cat is much more patient. Every week or so she’ll make me open the door for her to check that yes, it really is -10(C) or lower, and inside is suddenly much more desirable. (If it gets near freezing, she’ll still go out, but just sit on the barbeque 'cause it’s painted black and is thus warm)

I highly recommend public transit in cold, traffic jammy weather. Warm seat from the get go, and you can read a book while someone else gets paid to roll slowly through traffic. Hrm. Since it’s the pit, I’ll pit Edmonton for not having rail service out to the airport near where I work.

You know, I think I’ll just buy myself my own bottle of sunscreen. I won’t be needing that one anymore.

Well, at least you have the sense to wear those things when it gets cold. It never got above 20º today, and was very windy. Yeah, it’s December, it does that, ya know?
I need to Pit all the morons around here walking around in skimpy jackets, without a hat or scarf or gloves, complaining about the cold. The weather was the lead story on the news. It’s cold out! It snowed last night!
I was out all day, running errands and Christmas shopping. I kept seeing these people, dressed inappropriately, with befuddled looks on their faces, as if they were totally confused by the weather.
Come on, people! This isn’t Miami. It’s Baltimore. It gets cold here.

weather report from Waitsfield, Vt -11F, with wind chill, -25F

from the summit of Mad River Glen a short 15 minutes away, summit temp. -20F, 21 MPH winds, so with windchill it’s -49F

Mount Washington NH is… -7F air temp, 15 MPH wind, w/ windchill it’s -28F

usually Mt Washington is the COLDEST place in New England…

put it this way, my car had a hard time turning over tonight, it strained hard to start

It’s a relatively balmy 16° F right now, which is not too bad. Supposed to get about 10" of snow, though. Time to start sweeping off the car with the broom again.

Excalibre, are you a Yooper, or are you on the Mitt?

I actually like the cold better than the heat. Ya’ll can keep ya sunscreen. I don’t really hit my stride till the temp drops to freezing or worse.

People were complaining about the cold at work today. Sad part is it used to be worse. I used to walk to school in -30F temps, and not just in that old guy bitchin about the kids these days way. It used to be much worse than it is.

Also worth mentioning, I spent a summer in Galveston, Texas a while ago. Going from one end of the country to the other in the worst season (winter to summer/summer to winter) takes a bit of adjustment. After unimaginable heat, I swore to never complain about winter again. Haven’t yet.

:jumps on and kicks sand in Astroboy’s face and lays in with the beach umbrella :

We’re expecting wind chills into the -40s this week, and we’re not expecting a white christmas.

WTF? I’m in Minnesota, for fuck’s sake. I can still see GRASS. It’s December! This morning as I woke up, I could hear plows driving past my house. I got all excited, hopped out of bed, and raced to the nearest window. We got barely enough to cover the ground and the wind blew most of that away before noon. If I have to put up with temperatures way below freezing, I should at least get something nicer to look at than nasty dead, brown grass.

Even worse? My kid is completely terrified of snow; he won’t go anywhere near it. So the tiny bit that we got earlier this season was completely useless because I don’t have anyone to play with. :frowning: Maybe next year he’ll be better. Otherwise I’ll have to move him to, like, AZ or something.

I was very excited today when it warmed up from -18C to -10C.

I know I have been told why it is that people who don’t have to live in places that homo sapiens isn’t very well adapted for, but I just can’t think what that reason is right now.

Bring on the cold and the snow. It’s ski time! Yay!

Yah, it’s cold, got it, blah blah blah, I’ll look for my hat tonight…

So, MacTech you live near MRG? Got any floor space, a seasons pass, and and freeheel gear? Cold is good, snow is better.

And free-heel is best. Damn, summer and fall lasted too long.

I was out walking the day in the early morning…saw a girl in a bikini heading back from the beach. I love California.

Coastal Massachusetts: A degree or so north of zero Fahrenheit tonight, with gusty winds rattling the house.

Hurrah for flannel sheets!

Errr…I drive a 2003 Kia Rio (give me a break, I moved back to VA from NYC and it was all I could afford). It’s surprisingly a decent little car in the snow.

We really don’t have the money for snow tires right now, but I’d rather get them than not have them and have it snow really terribly.

And I’m going to get some of that more expensive fluid tonight - my poor winshield just looks like someone rubbed salt all over it.

Lsura, I don’t know if you’re closer to Cleveland or closer to Akron, but if you’re closer to Akron, you’re welcome to try to hitch a ride with me. I come up from Canton to Akron for work, and it’s not a bad little drive. Unfortunately, there’s no public transportation that I can take - SARTA only drives around Canton.

E.

Over crowded in the good spots?

You know…not to display my own ignorance or anything, but having grown up in Chicago, it took moving from there to Texas before I even realized they still made tires that weren’t snow or all-weather tires.

PUHLEASE!!! I am tired of people from New England talking about how I don’t know what cold is because I think 32 degrees is cold. Here where I live in VA yesterday, with wind chill, it was in the low negatives and all my girlfriend could say was that it wasn’t “that” cold and if I lived in New Hampshire (where she used to live) I would know what real cold is. Before I moved to VA I used to live in the California mojave desert but when it gets hot over here (85 degrees and up) you don’t here me saying, “You don’t know what hot is… blah, blah, blah…” even though it used to hit 100 -110 on the regular in Cali.

On a second note, if you can’t handle the weather where you are at then move. Don’t complain to everyone about how your nuts are frozen to your seat and how people in the southern part of the US don’t know what cold is. I wouldn’t live in the Sahara and then complain when I shrivel up like a prune.
