For the past couple months, some creature has been getting into my vegetable patch and stripping leaves off my brussels sprouts plants. I set a live trap briefly, without success, to catch what I figured had to be a groundhog, or maybe a raccoon or skunk.
Today I see movement in the brussels sprouts, head over and spy the offender fleeing the area - a medium-sized black cat.
What the hell kind of cat eats brussels sprout leaves? What’s the matter with a balanced diet of rodents?
I suspect this cat may be the sibling of a black kitten that wandered out of the woods last year and attached itself to Mrs. J. (figuratively speaking). We wound up finding a home for that one with my brother. This one, though is another story.

Actually I think I’ll try the Havahart trap again, baited with tuna. Any dopers want a nice black cat for Halloween?
It’s not that unusual for cats to become ravenous herbivores, especially toward one particular plant. When I had a cat she used to love to suck aloe plant juice. She’d bite into it and lick out the aloe juice. She left all other plants alone but she love her daily aloe fix.
