Your favorite 2 NES sports games.

The reason I said 2 is because I’m pretty sure most people are going to say Super Tecmo Bowl was their favorite NES sports game with the unstoppable Bo Jackson and I wanted to hear more than just STB.

My favorite sports game onthe NES was far and away SNK Baseball Stars. The controls were tight. It has a cool season mode with game saving. And you could create your own team with lots of dirty cuss word names for the players. I never really cared for Bases Loaded over the shoulder pitcher view.

A close second is, of course, STB. Just enough plays to make it fun but not too difficult and you could score MAD points with Bo. I loved that game.

oh yeess

Little League Baseball - the only downside was the inability to make teams or play in a league but the game play puts it over the top. The ting of the aluminum bats were sweet.

Skate or Die 2 - it’s just flat out fun.

I really enjoyed Baseball Stars, it’d be my number 3.

You shouldn’t just assume that about people. Not everyone thinks Super Tecmo Bowl is the greatest sports game ever created. There are independent thinkers like me that believe that the original Tecmo Bowl is better. Super Tecmo fits nicely in 2nd place though. I have literally been playing both of them for over 20 years now and I can destroy almost anything in them. I set challenges for myself like running up the score. I think my highest score has been 84 - 0 and I have an ongoing debate with myself whether or not any higher school is possible. That clock moves awfully fast and you have to make interceptions with one second left and run them back. Has anyone ever scored more than 84 point in regular Tecmo Bowl?

I still play both of them regularly on an emulator.

Baseball Stars is a good game. I took great care to build up an unbeatable team over weeks and succeeded quites well. Then, the stupid cartridge lost its ROM.

I’ve actually never played Super Tecmo Bowl. Only the original. It’s still one of my favorite sports games, but more due to circumstances than anything else. I remember a friend of mine and I used to skip school (middle, so it’s not like it counted) and play Tecmo. We never used Bo though. It was always Detroit Lions vs. Cleveland Browns. Good times.

Other than that, Buh-Lades of Steel.

Baseball Stars > Super Tecmo Bowl

Yeah, I’m an original Tecmo Bowl kind of guy. I think Double Dribble has to be in the second slot with Blades of Steel and (somewhat more obscure, but unbelievably fun) Dusty Diamond’s All Star Softball narrowly missing out.

Dang…how could I forget about Arch Rivals. That game was easily my favorite. Basketball and Punching…can’t beat it.

Blades of Steel…Old School NES. Must watch and listen for anyone who listed this as a fave.

Ya gotta love YouTube.

Mike Tyson’s Punchout is probably my favorite. I have a hard time ranking the rest.

Double Dribble was awesome.

Ditto for Blades of Steel.

There was a Nintendo baseball game that allowed you to make your own team and play seasons, but it didn’t have offical teams, and I remember a batter on my team had a .800+ average. He was awesome.

Tecmo Bowl was fun even if Bo kicked so much ass.

THe worst was probably 10 Yard Fight which was almost like an Atari 2600 game.

Woohoo, I’m first to mention RBI Baseball, which can’t be mentioned without posting a link to the '86 Series recreation. Until the debut of the Wii, this was the only baseball game I ever really enjoyed…

After that, the only game I owned that hasn’t been mentioned yet and still fits the category is plain old no-frills Golf.

Baseball Stars was a great great game. We didnt like the whole building process, playing the games with anything short of the best at each position was no fun, so we devised a system to make a league of 6 teams at max capacity- first make a new team, play a couple games against the lovely ladies, your team the home team, bunt out the LL 3 times, then hit your players 13 times in a row to get a 10-0 mercy win. then fire all your players, hire all rookies with top potential, then play the ladies again about 50 more times, filling up all your prestige first, then maxing out everyone. repeat for 6 more teams. usually took a good 12 hours, then play a super intense controller throwing, friendship ruining league until the memory crashes and you have to start it all over again. repeat until spring.

second best, since everyone else is saying STB, I’ll go with RC Pro Am, with Pro Wrestling and Punchout right there too.

It was, except for that unmissable 3 pointer glitch from the baseline on the left side

Blades of Steel
Mike Tyson’s Punch Out

That was Baseball Stars.

I forgot about Punch Out. That game is one of my all time favs too.

Base Wars!

Darn you! I got all the way to the bottom thinking the same thing… I can’t believe nobody else said RBI Baseball. I used to spend hours on that game.

I never owned Blades of Steel, but had fun when I played it. However, since I couldn’t play it consistently I can’t give it The Tof Stamp of Approval.

Super Tecmo Bowl- like Shagnasty I used to give myself challenges once it became apparant that I would win no matter what. (Although a whole season undefeated was surprisingly hard. There always seemed to be at least one game that the computer decided it just wasn’t going to lose).

I also really loved Mike Tysons punchout. I would set myself challenges in this to, the most popular being running the whole game without ever being punched.

Mike Tysons Punch Out
Blades of Steel.

in that order. I thought very seriously about making Mike Tyson’s Punch Out both number 1 and number 2, but decided that the misery I caused my friends by learning how to beat the snot out of anyone in the fist fights you could get into in multiplayer Blades of Steel had to count for something.

Never heard of it.

My 2 favourites:

  1. Punch Out
  2. Slalom

Damn, beat me to it. I love when a robot was so low on power that when you hit him with a pitch he’d explode right at the plate.

Wish they had made Mutant League Football for NES…
