Favorite NES sports games

The existing NES thread is largely ignoring sports games. So this thread is for sports lovers. My favorites were RBI Baseball and Double Dribble. Loved when the basketball changed to the dunker.

Tecmo Super Bowl is great

I had, and loved, original Tecmo Bowl. Used LA or Miami.

Baseball Stars. For two reasons:

The gameplay was actually pretty solid. Not so deep to be too hard to follow but deep enough that I would stay engaged for multiple games at a time. I liked the player stats as they were simple but definitely effected each team members performance.

The player name editor. I had a whole team of all star sluggers with names like Cock, Pussy, Ass, Fuck, etc… It was great when I was 10

RC Pro-Am. The great grand-daddy of rubberbanding NPCs. The game was tons of fun until you got to the later levels. The game didn’t even try to hide the mega nitro catch-up action of the computer controlled cars. It actually made a “PPPEEEEWWWW!!!” sound when it kicked in. I remember keeping the rear bombs as my weapons all the time because it was the only way to try to slow down the cheater computer.

Punch Out. Loved that game.

Double Dribble. The dope ass 3 frame dunk graphics were awesome!

My brother was AWESOME at Mike Tyson Punchout, I sucked.

When I read the thread title, this was the first thing that popped into my head. I played the hell out of Baseball Stars.

And i’ll add Kings of the Beach, that beach volleyball game where you played as Sinjin Smith & Randy Stoklos (don’t ask me why i can remember that)

And Skate or Die!

Wow this thread is flashback inducing!

Skate or Die was da bomb!!

Blades. Of. Steel. SHINK! <-Sound effect

When I would play Bases Loaded, I would pretend I playing minor league ball.

Bases Loaded 1 and 2, Baseball Simulator, Dusty Diamond All-Star Softball, RBI Baseball,

Racket Attack, Tecmo Super Bowl, NES Open Tournament Golf, NES Ice Hockey

Punch Out, Skate or Die, California Games. Played the heck out of all three.

Took awhile, but eventually became dominant Racket Attack player.

Mike Tyson’s Punch Out
Tennis
And something that never gets mentioned, Bad News Baseball. I don’t know why, but I loved that game and played the hell out of it

Tecmo Super Bowl was amazing. Still one of my favorite video games ever.

“It’s a pass!”

I got so damn good at that game my bothers eventually refused to play me.

The robot fighting baseball game was cool. Forget the name.

I liked Punch Out, but I could never get past about the fifth opponent. (Sixth? Maybe. I don’t remember. Geez, that’s like 25 years ago.)

I also liked Baseball and Ice Hockey because after hours of fighting a hard game, I could take a break and be up 45-0 in the fourth inning or second period, respectively.

Super Spike V’Ball and Nintendo World Cup on one cartridge. V’Ball was a good entertaining game but World Cup was awesome, except for Argentina’s super kick.

Techmo Superbowl is in my top five games of all time.

RBI Baseball!

don’t know any NES baseball games like that but Super Baseball 2020 on SNES/Genesis was a cool robot baseball game

Base Wars.

I love Super Tecmo Bowl and Baseball Stars. I also like the racing game Formula One: Built to Win, Super Dodge Ball, and Tecmo NBA Basketball, which I believe is the only team b-ball game where you could play as Jordan.
