Clearly there are some obvious standouts here and a whole lotta crap. I excluded most of the crap (there’s a reason nobody remembers Babes or Good Grief), but included some of the crap because either I personally enjoyed it (Get A Life) or it was otherwise memorable but short-lived (Blossom, Ferris Bueller).
Apologies if I forgot something major.
BTW in case anyone’s looking for The King of Queens or Will & Grace, their original runs were mostly in the 00’s (1998 - 2007 and 1998 - 2006 respectively).
Well, sure, but in Limeyland that’s a half season! That would be like saying that Heroes only had 3 seasons because the second season was only half as long!
Home Improvement is on par with Cheers and Night Court for best sitcoms of all time. The actors all worked well together and the verbal and physical comedy was spot on.
Now this is more my era of sitcoms. I voted for Seinfeld, The Nanny, The Simpsons, Friends, Frasier, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Just Shoot Me, Mad About You and Married… With Children. I still love all of them, Seinfeld and The Simpsons are my two favourite TV shows ever.
What? Six years? No way…my old roommate had the entire series on DVD and it was only two seasons…

Oooh, I didn’t know it was based off of a British show. Well alright then. I imagine it has to be at least 100x better, what with the complete lack of Rob Schneider.
Roseanne holds up incredibly well. When I catch reruns, I’m still surprised at how authentic it is. I don’t think there’s another show that’s come close to it in terms of middle class, middle America authenticity. Oh, and it’s still funny, of course.
Seinfeld and Simpsons are no-brainers. They’re two of the best anythings in the history of the idiot box.
