Your Favorite Beatles Album Cover?

Yeah, I’d go with Sgt. Pepper. The rest aren’t all that distinctive to me. It’s one of the few I could recall the cover from.

On a related note, there’s a local legend that for years the main branch of the Spokane City Library had the original “butcher cover” of that album in their record collection for years before it was either replaced or some savvy record collector checked it out and “forgot” to return it.

That could be true. I recall in the 70s often finding decent rock albums listed at libraries, but they were always checked out and long overdue. I’d be surprised if it stayed available for years though.

Quite possible. Since most copies of the butcher cover were pasted over with the standard trunk cover, only someone who knew what to look for would realize what it was. (The biggest giveaway is a dark triangle formed by Ringo’s shirt that shows through a white portion of the paste-over cover.)

I disagree.

I think it was the liner notes of the “Rarities” LP I bought as a teen that opined that the nearest interpretation of those words seemed to be “fuck me like a superman”. Your version sounds pretty close to me whereas the other seems completely random.

The “Superman” line is what you supposedly hear when it’s played backwards. (“We’ll fuck you like Supermen,” according to Paul McCartney in a Rolling Stone interview where he recounted being asked about this by fans.) I hear the loop played normally as saying “I never do see any other way.”
