Your Favorite Chain Sub Shop

I only go to Subway and stick with their tuna sub, which is pretty good.

I tried Potbelly when I was visiting Chicago. It was good, but it’s a bit far to go for me.

The only choices around here are Subway and Jimmy John’s. There was a Quiznos but it closed down, probably from lack of interest. As far as I was concerned, it was the worst of the three.

I’d put Jimmy John’s on top.

Which Wich? is my favorite place to go for a sub and one of the only chains I’ll go to.
I’m picky about my sandwiches so the way you order is awesome. For those of you that have never been, you get a paper bag that lists all of your options for type of sub, meats, cheeses, toppings, condiments, etc and you check off what you want then hand them the paper. This way you see all of your options and you don’t have to worry about miscommunication. They then put the sandwich in the paper bag that you gave them.

Oh I forgot about Potbelly, I guess that’s my favorite, but for some reason I don’t think of what they sell as “subs.” I suppose they are, though.

There aren’t that many chains where I live. My favorite is Togo’s, mainly because it’s the only one that makes a meatball sub where the sauce isn’t too sweet.
After that:
Quizno’s (if I can find one that’s open - the trend seems to be that whenever a new one opens, it tends to close within a year when the owners learn the hard way why no other restaurants in that location did well)
(I would put Blimpie’s here, if I knew of any that were still open)
Port o’ Subs (a Blimpies wannabe, IMO)
Subway
JJ’s, mainly because I don’t really like anything on their menu - to be fair, I’ve only been to one (in Columbus)
I think this a chain - Earl of Sandwich; the one time I went there, the bread was stale, and the sauce for the meatball sub wasn’t warm enough (plus, it was on the Las Vegas Strip, so I had to play Las Vegas Strip-inflated prices)

Planet Sub - definitely the best. Even if they did pare down their menu and dropped my top 2 go-to sandwiches.

Blimpies and Subway tie for second.

I have had Jimmy John’s and will eat it, but they are not something I think to go for. We have a Quiznos. I have tried Quiznos. After the whole Spongmonkey ad campaign and the 1 sub-par attempt, I have no desire to go there ever again.

The Lenny’s here just closed the other day. I was never a huge fan of their sandwiches.

I despise Quiznos.

Subway is…fine…I guess.

I like Togo’s.

I love Jersey Mike’s.

I have never liked Subway. There used to be a Togo’s near my house but no more. Recently my go to sandwich chain is Jersey Mike’s. They seem to be expanding into every signal strip mall in Southern California.

Jersey Mike’s Big Kahuna sub has been my go-to sandwich since they opened in town. Quite tasty, even out of the fridge the next day. Of course the second half gets a dash of BBQ sauce and a bit more cheese added, but still…

Potbelly, Quizno’s, and Cousins (southern WI chain), in that order.

Potbelly needs to bring back the Turkey Rae. Also, I like how they will do a skinny cut on the bread.
I’ve never had a bad Quizno sub.
Cousins is a bit hit or miss. The specialty sandwiches are fantastic, but an Italian or salami sandwich is pretty blah.

I believe the Subway stench is a combo of the (rancid) pan release agent and singed green peppers. There’s only one Subway I’ve been in which didn’t stink. Mr. Submarine needs better bread options: if they had a rye roll for the pastrami, and better mustard, they’d win, hands down.

Jasons Deli and Jimmy John’s is my 2nd favorite.

I love the Club Royale at Jasons. Smoked turkey breast, premium ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss, cheddar, honey mustard on toasted all butter croissant. yummy

I get the Bootlegger Club at Jimmy Johns. *Roast beef, turkey breast, lettuce, tomato, & mayo. * its really, really good.

Firehouse by far.

Subway has that funky smell, but it’s pretty boring.

Jimmy John’s was like something I could make at home.

I need to try Quizno’s.

I forgot about Lenny’s. I’d place them very close to Jersey Mike’s.

I haven’t seen a Blimpie’s in years. I didn’t know they were still around. There used to be one close to my work and I went there regularly. I’d put them above Subway but not by much.

Someone mentioned Schlotzky’s… they have good sandwiches but they aren’t subs.

Firehouse first. I buy $50 worth of Firehouse gift cards at Sam’s Club for $40. That reduces the price by 20%. I’m a big fan of the NY Steamer (Corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted provolone, mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing.).

Which Wich - They do a nice French dip.

Subway - bland and predictable, but reliable and cheap.

I’ve only had Jimmy John’s once, and it didn’t do anything for me.

StG

Huh. Apparently there are tons of multi-state sub chains that have locations around where I live that I’ve never heard of.

There’s a Maryland chain called Three Brothers I go to that is excellent. It’s right down the street from me.

They just built a Jersey Mike’s in our town and thanks to recommendations here we tried it last night. Very good. I must say, having the meat sliced right when you order instead of cutting it ahead and wrapping in wax paper (yeah, Subway) makes it taste a whole lot better. Also they had tomatoes that were actually red. So, thanks for the recommendation, **Spud **and others.

Potbelly is my number one.

I even worked at a Potbelly for a couple years in college, yet still find myself eating at the one downstairs in my work building about once a week.

Jimmy Johns comes in second. Subway third.

We seem to have no shortage of sub shops here:

Subway
Cousin’s
Quizno’s
Which Wich
Capriotti’s
Pot Belly
Erberts and Gerbert’s (regional chain)
Jimmy John’s
Milio’s (regional chain)
Silver Mine Subs
Firehouse Subs
Jason’s Deli (under construction)

I’ve never eaten at only Which Wich. All the rest are at least acceptable but I would rank Subway, Quiznos, Jimmy Johns, and Cousins at the bottom. E&G, Capriotti’s, and Firehouse at the top, and Jason’s, Milio’s, Silver Mine, and Potbelly in the middle.

Potbelly’s was fine when I ate there, but not significantly better than either Quiznos or Subway, I’d say. Likewise Jimmy John’s.
