I know you said yogurt is a usual, boring snack, but here’s what I just had: plain 2% Fage Greek yogurt, drizzled with honey and served in an antique teacup. The yogurt is luxuriously creamy and packed with protein, and I make sure not to mix the honey in, so I get a little ribbon of honey in each bite, slightly thickened by the cold of the yogurt. Delicious and fun, and I bet has less sugar per ounce than your average yogurt cup.
I also like a small handful of trail mix: almonds, Craisins, pepitas (I like salted), and a small percentage of Ghirardelli 60% cacao chocolate chips. The key to the healthy is to have a small portion, but it is very satisfying.
I mix plain Greek yogurt with no-sugar-added berry jam and fresh blackberries or raspberries – much more exciting than regular berry-flavored yogurt. You can also mix 1 TB unsweetened cocoa, 2 tsp Splenda, and a cap-full of vanilla extract into plain Greek yogurt for a chocolate treat.
Unauthorized Cinnamon, I used to do that. Unfortunately, I show no restraint when honey is put into my hands
But gallows, man oh man does that sound good. I would have never thought of the vanilla extract bit!
Glory, that sounds delicious. Wow. I’m going to try that this weekend!
All fats aren’t created equal. Avocado has a ton of the good fat. Guacamole, OTOH, unless made with a careful hand and lowfat or nonfat sour cream, can easily go south.
My thoughts exactly. Avacado + pico de gallo (essentially) equals good guac. But, suffice to say, a lot of popular variations contain sour cream. I’ve even seen bacon find its way into guacamole.
Vanilla extract makes everything a little bit better.
BTW, I had cottage cheese w/ Splenda and cinnamon this morning, but I added a secret ingredient – 1 TB cream cheese – and it was almost like eating cheesecake. Only 150 calories, too.
gallows you are an actual genius. I’m convinced. Where do you think this stuff up! I did the yogurt, and it was PHENOMENAL. And I already had high expectations!
Zsofia, I put sour cream in guac…because that’s what my seasoning packet said to do. I’m so ashamed! But I’ve since tried it without and I really do prefer the creaminess it adds.
Oh I agree, it is easy. I buy mine in different stages of ripeness so I can enjoy them each day without one going bad. And you can put 'em in the fridge once they’re ripe and they’ll keep for awhile.
Plain smashed with some pico and lime juice is good, it’s just - strictly IMO - better with a little sour cream and tiny diced tomatoes and this seasoning.
