Your favorite movie/TV henchmen

T’was watching SPECTRE with my far better half last night, and I got to thinking to myself, “Self, I once considered a top-five list of favorite henchmen, but I totally forgot it. . .

I know I’ve got two on my list, in order of their henchy-ness:

  1. Sven-Ole Thorsen, an old-school musclehead that’s been in a lot of Arnold Schwarzenneger flicks, was “Mr Haft” in Sum of All Fears and the Soviet COB in The Hunt for Red October.
  2. Dave Bautista, a new-school musclehead, who was a sidekick in Guardians of the Galaxy, a nurse in Hotel Artemis, but henched it up in SPECTRE.
  3. Richard Kiel who was “Jaws” in Moonraker.
  4. TBD. . .

I’m looking for non-lead actors/actresses who do the henching for main villians. The Empire/First Orders’ Stormtroopers don’t count, because their sheer population and uselessness water down the henchability factor.

Who’s some notable henchmen/henchwomen I’m missing?

I gotta think about Westerns. . . some possible Ranch-henchers there, too.

Jonathan Banks.

Al Leong

Harold “Oddjob” Sakata

Oooh oooh, I forgot about Al Leong. He’s my “Christmas Henchman” for being in Die Hard AND Lethal Weapon.

That debate is another thread.

I hadn’t considered him a henchman, because he seemed to be his own ‘independent operator’ at times.

This reminds me that I need to watch Better Call Saul.

@Kent_Clark, I need to start watching some older Bond, too.

They’re both going on the list, though!

Vinnie Jones

Starker, from Get Smart.

Seigfreid*: “Starker! Zis is KAOS! Ve don’t ***** here!”

He was pretty henchy in Beverly Hills Cop.

Jon Gries as “Broots” in The Pretender tv series.
The Pretender (TV Series 1996–2000) - Jon Gries as Broots - IMDb

Are we talking about actors or characters?

Either way, Geoffrey Holder as Baron Samedi in Live and Let Die.

Slim Pickens as Taggart in Blazing Saddles

Ditto!

I first saw Benicio del Toro as a minor henchman. I have no idea what else was going on in the scene where I first noticed him, because he commanded all the attention. I even pointed him out, and said “I want to see him as a major villain sometime.”

Bruce Glover (many TV villains, but most famous as Mr. Wint in Diamonds Are Forever).

Brion James

Joe Viterelli, who played a lot of mob henchmen in the '90s, but I always think of him as Jelly in Analyze This.

Does the henchman have to be competent? I was thinking of Ned Beatty as the bumbling assistant to Gene Hackman’s Lex Luthor in Superman: The Movie.

Max from The Great Race
