Your favorite one hit wonder

The Proclaimers are one hits? I got to know them when “Make My Heart Fly” was featured on MTV’s 120 Minutes show c.1987. “500 Miles” came out the next year, but didn’t hit until 1993 when it was part of the “Benny and Joon” soundtrack. “On My Way” was a hit after it was part of the “Shrek” soundtrack, wasn’t it? Movies have been very good to the Reed brothers.

Well, the title was a parody of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’.

Hot Child In The City by Nick Gilder. It was my favorite song in the late 1970’s.

When I was like 7 years old and listened avidly to Casey Kasem counting 'em down…

I sped through the thread, and I don’t think anyone mentioned “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies. Wasn’t that the #1 selling single of the entire 1960s?

Never been to me

Technically, I think he’s not a one-hit wonder, but I think it’s fair to say that Young MC is only remembered now for the immortal “Bust a Move.”

That rap always bugged me, by the way; he spends the whole time complaining, and yet to hear him tell it, women keep throwing themselves at him.

“Na Na, Hey Hey, Kiss him Goodbye” - Steam (they apparently ran out of it shortly after)

[shudder]guhuuuuuuuu[/shudder]…that’s what glurge can do. I guess I have to return the favor:

*We had joy, we had fun,
We had seasons in the sun,
but the stars we could reach
were just starfish on the beach

Game Over.

Unfortunately, the Archies were not a one-hit wonder; they also had “Jingle Jangle” (#10), “Bang-Shang-a-Lang” (#22), and “Who’s Your Baby?” (#40).

“Don’t Dream It’s Over”-Crowded House

Secret Smile was a bigger hit, here at least.

Was “Weather With You” not a hit there? It was a bigger hit than “Don’t Dream It’s Over” worldwide.

In the year 2525- Zager and Evans. A cheerful little ditty.
How do you do- Mouth & MacNeal.
Have to look them up yourself but worth it.

Still one of my all time favourites:

Something in The Air by Thunderclap Newman

Trivia: that’s her doing the wordless singing in “Rachel’s Song” from the Blade Runner soundtrack. One of the most beautiful vocals I’ve ever heard.

.

Climax Blues Band, Couldnt get it Right. Man I loved that tune. Must have been the cowbell.

Although Wiki says they had a top 40 hit predating 867-5309/Jenny, Tommy Tutone comes to mind. Dancing in the moonlight by King Harvest.

Only counts as one-hit wonders for the U.S.

They had (according to Wikipedia) six top 20 hits in the U.K., including four in the top 5 (two went to #1).

Now, I’m thinking of the time Jackie from Roseanne sang this and ran around the studio audience. :stuck_out_tongue:

Martha & The Muffins - Echo Beach

Uhh Something So wrong??
