Echo and the Bunnymen had a bigger hit with “Bring on the Dancing Horses” Saw the tour.. bought the t-shirt.. (Aragon Ballroom.. 1986)
And Banarama had several hits and sang on the Band Aid song..
Berlin? “Sex”… “Metro”.. “No More Words”…
And Thomas Dolby in the earlier thread? “Hyperactive”.." I scare myself".. “Flat Earth”..
Not one hit wonders..
What about Big Country’s In a Big Country?
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones also had hits with “Someday I Suppose”, “The Rascal King”, “Royal Oil” and “So Sad To Say” (all charting higher than #25 in the U.S.).
I used to love Big Country! Whatever happened to them?
Haha, come to think of it I think I do remember that.
The Dream Academy- Life In A Northern Town
The lyrics for the latter are particularly meaningful when you realize that the singer and bass player were killed in a car accident just as they were about to hit it big.
Well, their lead singer, Stuart Adamson, committed suicide by hanging in late 2001.
Anyone remember Insensitive by Jann Arden?
Lead singer and guitarist Stuart Adamson killed himself in hawaii i think..
They had a minor followup in the UK “Fields of Fire”
Men without Hats anyone?? “safety dance”… and no.. the followup attempt “I like” wasn’t a hit.. or much of anything.. lol
And “Here’s Where the Story Ends” by the Sundays. One of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard.
None of those cracked the US Top 40.
Don’t know if it cracked the top 40, but “I Love You Goodbye” got lots of play.
They had another pretty big hit with Summertime.
The Wild Horses cover by the Sundays was also very popular.
Also, Letter from America was a big hit in the UK. Sunshine on Leith, Let’s Get Married - no way are the Proks one-hit wonders!
Great call with How Bizarre.
I’ll throw this one in:
Skee-Lo - I Wish
Danzig - Mother
Lo Fidelity Allstars - Battleflag
Right Said Fred - I’m Too Sexy
Bobby McFerrin–Don’t Worry Be Happy
Sukiyaki - Kyu Sakamoto. It hit number one in the US in 1963, and is probably the only Japanese song to ever be a hit in this country. He was popular in Japan, but never had another hit in the US.
Perhaps in the pop arena. McFerrin won five Grammies for best jazz vocalist.
Quarterflash - Harden my Heart
Well hell I was so convinced they never had another hit. Turns out this was only 1 of 3. Take me to Heartwas actually the last one.
“Lucas With the Lid Off” by Lucas, 1994.
