Your Favorite TYPE Of Toothpaste/Mouth Rinse?

I forgot whether we’re allowed to mention “brand names” here anymore, so I’ll just say that they’re both “naturally oxygenating”, and the paste has alow vera in it.

I used to buy the “whatever’s cheapest” brands of both, but with the meds I have to take now, my wife says my breath smells like I just ate some shit:eek: (I think we Dopers have corrupted her), and these 2, while expensive as hell, are the best we have found to avoid that smell.

So I’ll say the name if it’s not prohibited.

Thanks

Mine are both called “Thera Breath”, a formula developed by Dr. Harold Katz.

Grocery stores have them.

And yeah, they cost a bit more, but if it means breathing naturally while kissing my wife rather than holding my breath, then I figure they’re worth it.

Tootpaste: $5.99 (comes with a $1.00 off coupon in box and is sometimes on sale)

Mouth Rinse $7.99 (also with a $1.00 off coupon in box or taped to the side of the bottle(16 fluid ounce bottle).

To work most effectively, no water is used ever. It’s a 3 minute hold it in your mouth rinse. Brush, another 3 minute hold it in your mouth rinse (doesn’t take very much and both last me about a month).

I use this prescription strength toothpaste I can only get from my dentist (it has 10x the flouride of normal toothpaste – I used to get it from the pharmacy, but it went OTC, which actually made it more expensive grrrrrrr). It costs $12! But you only use a little at a time.

I use that at night before bed, because for it to work you’re not supposed to rinse, eat or drink for 20 minutes after brushing. In the morning, I use Arm & Hammer Baking Soda & Peroxide toothpaste, it’s gritty and not very sweet, which is what I like about it. I think its on the cheaper side for toothpaste, I don’t remember because I don’t buy it that often. If I am ever forced to use my husband’s Colgate it feels/tastes like I’m bushing my teeth with cake frosting - yuck!

Arm & Hammer Toothpaste - switched from Crest many years ago and now can’t stand the taste of Crest or similar products.

Colgate and original Listerine. Love the last - talk about a clean feeling in the mouth!

I came in to mention this very product and I’ve been beaten to it twice! It tastes so much better than regular toothpaste. Though it seems you have to get the right variety…I think the “minty” one is good, and the extra whitening…not so much.

Aim or Close Up toothpaste and Lavoris (when I can find it) mouthwash.

I use oravive toothpaste. It has novamin, which was designed as a chemical to help broken bones heal but is now used in some toothpastes. Studies have shown it to be more effective than fluoride toothpaste in fighting gingivitis, cavities and tooth sensitivity. It also helps remineralize teeth.

Its great for tooth sensitivity while on the subject. Regular anti-sensitive toothpaste just has potassium nitrate, which deadens the nerves in your teeth. Novamin actually plugs up the holes in your teeth so that they are not activated. It is like taking something that heals a wound vs. something that just deadens the nerves. It works well for my sensitive teeth.

It is expensive though ($8 for a 4 oz tube) and you can’t eat for 30 minutes after you use it. Plus it doesn’t have fluoride in it. But I enjoy it, and it works pretty well.

I didn’t take care of my teeth for an extremely long time so I need something stronger than regular toothpaste.

Close Up, but only the red gel form.
Listerine, blue.

I have no brand loyalty when it comes to oral hygiene. Generic Listerine type mouthwash and whatever paste I grab off the shelf.

Tom’s of Maine Spearmint toothpaste.

Biotene mouth rinse. It’s great. I used to get tiny mouth sores, and this stuff seems to clear them right up. Plus it tastes good–much less strong-tasting than some (listerine, I am looking at you).

Arm and Hammer Whitening w/ Baking soda and Peroxide, with a rinse of ACT (the one that does everything from fortifying your teeth to washing your clothes).

I like Aquafresh best out of Aquafresh, Crest, and Colgate.

I still have fond childhood memories of when they added the red stripe to Aquafresh. (It used to have only green stripes.)

How about you folks, who HAVE to use a certain toothpaste/mouth rinse because of halitosis due to medications/keto acidosis and the like?
