Welcome to the joys of womens’ clothing manufacturers being absolutely certain that we all value appearance above all else, such as practical needs (apparently, practicality in clothing is for men).
Yes, this is a pet peeve of mine.
Speaking of pets, I pulled a really bad goof this morning. Picked up the cats’ water dish to refill it, neglected the “refill and put on floor for them” step, did not discover this until we got home about eleven hours later. They now have their usual dish, plus a supplemental bowl so both can drink at the same time without disputes, and both seem to have forgiven me, but DAMN, was I apparently out of it this morning! Seriously considering just leaving a faucet on trickle if we’re going to be gone all day again.
The fun of customer service jobs. BTDT, got the blood pressure issues.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 74 degrees Ferret Height(23.333 Centipedes)
So say we all.
One time when I went to my regular bar, and 2 of my usual bartenders were on duty at the same time, I had two beers in front of me before my butt finished hitting the seat.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 22c/71f with a predicted high of 31c/88f and sunny. Weather app says “Is this the fucking day when a chef stuffs your bum with breadcrumbs and you get fucking served to elegantly dressed guests at a party?” Sounds like a dream one of us must have had!
How exciting, and fabulous new toes too! I’m looking forward to pics of the new hair too
JtC I’m so pleased to hear that your recovery is going well and you’ll be more comfortable now that you’re losing the stitches and surgical tape. I am also of the opinion that seeing pics of my own injuries is way more painful after the event!
doggio I went to one of my usual pubs in town, the barmaid saw us come in and realised she didn’t have our preferred beer on tap so she went straight down to the cellar to hook up the barrel!
Yesterday was scorchio, it was very sticky and humid in the house so the half-hour respite in an air-conditioned room in the gym was welcome, except it was a tough class and I was overheating at the end. Got home and had a cool shower, then flopped on the sofa in front of a fan to cool off a bit.
Today promises to be even more scorchio, there are far too many ferrets predicted to be outside so I am staying inside as much as possible. Sadly I have to go to campus tomorrow, which I am not looking forward to. I may not be able to go to campus on Friday though, there are rumours of industrial action on the trains which (I think) involves the union that covers the guards so that means a lot of services can’t run without the crew.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and partly cloudy this afternoon. We are under a heat advisory late mornin’ through the rest of the day. The heat index will be 105-110 degrees. ICK! We shall procure provisions later this mornin’ and grab fried chikin plates for today’s main need to feed as the mood to cook is not upon me. Needless to say we shall remain inside and cool otherwise.
Coppertone appropriate/inappropriate appendages stay crossed. I see they are goin’ to give you a chance. Hope it works out for ya.
doggio both of us spend maybe ten minutes each in the chair to get shorn. We are liked cause we tip well.
MetalMouse I await the buryin’ of the fiber optic cable that got re-done last Thursday before I can mow. Hopefully that will happen in the next couple of days. Glad the thermostat issue is resolved but sorry for the $$$ cost.
Mollie yay for the new hair and colorful nails!
red hope you don’t have to miss the family reunion.
rocker apparently lager has decided to take up fishin’. Hope the brick idea works.
JtC glad the stitches are out and you’re more comfy. Remember, marathon not sprint.
BrightTree poor Ollie! Hope his ear issue clears up soonest. Avacado chawklit mousse sounds umm… weird.
Cat_Glove that was a bzzy day! Hope you got some good sleep.
BooFae, Nuts, Dicey, and other Mumpers in Europe hope the heat wave abates soonest. It gets hawt here in Summer, but at least we have the availability of a/c everywhere.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable (well at least later this mornin’) for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Scotland is currently still functioning as advertised, no heatwave up here so far. It’s about 26 centipedes; nice weather for sitting outside with an ice cream or a nice cold drink. Alas, I have no ice cream, and I need to be sitting inside staring at a computer which is making no sense instead of frolicking in the sunshine.
Hope those who are affected are doing OK with it. Also spare a thought for my sister-in-law, who is trying to deal with the heat while very heavily pregnant- I believe baby is now almost 2 weeks overdue and apparently they’ll be inducing tomorrow if my new niece doesn’t make an appearance today. They’re not in the worst bit of the heatwave, but still… That doesn’t sound comfortable.
Anyway, I think I may walk to the nearer shop and grab some ice cream. I think I’ll need to it reward myself for staring at the obnoxious irk computer all day.
I’m not a fan of oreos in stuff. I like them on their own, but they don’t do a lot for me when broken up and added to other things.
And mine. Tho of all things, I had pockets in a pair of jammies - because nothing says restful sleep like a bulge of something forgotten in a pocket…
I don’t want to see, I don’t want to know. FCD is fascinated by all things medical - he’ll watch YouTube videos of surgeries and such. Meanwhile, I have to turn my head and think happy thoughts when I’m having blood drawn. I just want my Dr to tell me I’m all fixed and everything will be fine. I don’t need the play-by-play description. < shudder >
I’m so ashamed - I visualize the brick being flung at the offender… soooo ashamed…
I was in such a state in Florida with a child who refused to appear by Aug 28, and chose to wait till Sep 5. She’s been a trial ever since.
Today starts with 71 Ferrets, going to low 80s. It’s overcast, but no precip yet. We were supposed to get some major rain overnight, but as far as I can tell, it didn’t happen on our street. I’ll continue weeding this morning, hoping to finish the lower half today - the section I plan to do is especially overrun. I may take before-and-after pics if I remember.
Once back inside, I have a little boat-stuff-sewing to do, but that won’t fill more than an hour or so. Which means the rest of the day is up for grabs. I should run a load of laundry with all the icky, sweaty weeding clothes that are currently draped over the tub in the hall bathroom. It was all to wet to go in the basket with the rest of the dirties, and adding today’s ickies should make for a full load. So that’ll get added to my to-do list.
I have been very happy with my Bernina 335 sewing machine. It is rather basic but has served me well. I have thought about an upgrade but have always, until yesterday, managed to talk myself out of it. I got a flyer in the mail yesterday that [vito corleone] made me an offer i couldn’t refuse[/vito corleone]
My Bernina 475 was marked down to half price, $2,000.00. They also gave me a $500.00 trade in for my 335, and 20% off all accessories. The new machine has a lot of features that will enhance my sewing hobby. I plan to spend today getting it out of the box and setting it up.
Had a chief who said he could deal with his own blood but not other people’s, and his wife could deal with other people’s blood but not her own – so either way he’d be fine and she’d be screwed.
67 ferrets/19 centipedes at 0800; predicted high 81. Highs in the low to mid 80s forecast for the next week. Only two nights and the intervening day with rain, though.
Lady SCAdian has a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, and I think I was supposed to go in for an INR draw last week. If so, I’ll go with her and sit and read whilst waiting for her after the lab is finished with me.
Time to go feed the little furry monsters (half of whom aren’t really all that little).
It’s 58F and cloudy. The forecast calls for cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions, with a daytime high of 72F.
I watch when they give me shots or draw blood, and I used to watch surgery videos and shows, too. I want to see what they’re doing, and blood doesn’t bother me in the least; neither my own or someone else’s.
Coppertone, I hope the job works out.
For those of you experiencing a heatwave, I hope it soon passes and that some precipitation arrives. Not too much, but enough to cool things down, give the ground a good conditioning soak, and to clear the air.
Bright Tree, I hope Ollie’s ear clears up.
Cat Glove, I got tired just reading about your activities.
I went to one of my favorite nurseries yesterday in search of Japanese Forest Grass. They are permanently closing down at the end of the season. They’ve been in business for 50 years, and the couple who run it, having been running it for 40 years. They want to retire, and I can’t blame them. I’m sorry to see them go. At any rate, I found the grass I was looking for, but only in the yellowish hues, so I had to go to the other nursery in the valley, and I found two of the greenish-hued varieties. After the nursery trips, I stopped at Costco to get TP, and I still managed to spend over 200 bucks.
If we can get trailer today, we’ll be clearing out the house and garage and make a trip to the appliance dump, as well as the regular dump. Tomorrow, we’ll start prepping and painting another room. I think that’ll be it for painting before the kids arrive. We’ll pick it up again after the kids leave and I’m fully healed from the cataract surgery, which is scheduled to occur on the 23rd. The kids arrive on the 24th. I want time to fully clean the house, including the carpets, before they get here. I am way past the days when I could knock out steam cleaning 2452 square feet of carpeting in a day.
Plus, I want to take the spinny scrub brush thingy to my kitchen dining area and all the bathroom floors.
And, I’ll wash the walls of the rooms we haven’t painted, too.
Anyway, it’s a lot, and I don’t think my husband appreciates how much it is because he’s never done it. I usually take care of all that. But, with a deadline looming, the tasks seem daunting.
Not griping, it’s just the way it is.
Anyway, time for some more coffee, and then I suppose I should get on with the day.
operation new fish tank will be delayed a day. last night was a condo meeting. tonight will be rinse/water test.
when i’m home and awake i take off the cling film. should koritza take notice an exchange will happen. she is a good girl and after a bit of back and forth will move on to something else.
lager on the other hand… he is like having a wicked smart 2year toddler. he figures things out very quickly and moving on…pipe dream. it takes a “time out” to reset lager. he is why the cats can’t have a fountain. he will take off the lid and splash all the water out. that upsets the pump.
mollie, the toes are lovely. welcome to the world of no pockets.
lh75, an unboxing! how exciting. i hope set up goes well.
suntan lotion, good luck with the job.
taters, sorry about the nursery retirement. it is a bittersweet thing. that is some serious housekeeping you have going.
I got a haircut yesterday at the Great Clips at Cobblestone Crossing. I look and feel more civilized and kempt. I was overdue. She worked on my eyebrows, too. I cut back my moustache when I got home.
Good morning! Chloé and I had our walk through the very, very damp air this morning. Which just reminded me - I hadn’t turned the dehumidifier back on after I cleaned its filter yesterday. Hopefully that’ll make it less sticky in here.
Obligatory sunrise pic:
The purse arrived from Amazon this morning. It’s an 8.5" x 5" black pleather cross-body bag, which has more than enough room for my keys, wallet, and phone. What am I supposed to do with all the extra space?
This is one of those weird things I keep experiencing: I should be more euphoric about finally having hair that isn’t from a Halloween costume I’d put together thirty years ago, but this stupid, little pocketbook has me over the moon. Brains is weird.
I looked. I love Land’s End, but the only one they have in my size looks schoolmarmy. I may be the right age to be a schoolmarm, but I don’t feel the right age.
something something lines Looking good is important, but so is having someplace to put my frickin’ car key.
And you just reminded me. I hadn’t filled Chloé’s water dishes this morning. Mrs Magill usually does that. That’s sorted now. I noticed that Chloé has been bringing toys to Buttercup’s hutch. I think she misses her rabbit friend.
Boofae - Your weather app and I go to very different parties.
Coppertone - I totally missed that they’re giving you a chance! Great news! It sounds like they’re hiring you probationally. That way, you both have the chance to see if you and the job fit each other. Will you be cooking or serving?
Speaking as someone who has worked more than her fair share of fiber cuts, Thank you.
I always found it interesting to watch a dentist do their thing when getting excavations done. Sadly, most dentists forwent the overhead mirror when doing office updates.
Makeup? Take up smoking?
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I need to make a grocery run today, then call and set up blood work, since the poorly trained vampire nurse who attempted the blood draw yesterday sucked at it and caused more pain than almost any other draw has without enough blood to test.
Good morning all. Slept in a bit, have laundry going and will shortly head outdoors to perform mowage. Afternoon will have a little gym time with the evening devoted to packing up for a quick departure tomorrow (about 400 miles to drive). Day looks pretty promising, about 77F now and heading to 86F later, but the only chance of rain is later tonight.
Lots of communicating in the past 12 hours, so going into scrolling mode now…
Bright Tree, hope Ollie is doing better, ears can be an annoyance.
Coppertone, great news, I know you’ll make a success of it.
Cat Glove, that was a rather full day! Hope you got a good night’s rest.
Same for me in N. Ali-bama.
BBBoo, thanks for the advice, I was always one of the old ;let it dry up and scab over’ crew, will have to learn some new tricks.
boo fae, the 31C/88F is pretty toasty for your area, stay cool.
Nut, best wishes to sister and may your soon-to-be niece/nephew be hale and healthy. And ice cream sounds like just the thing after I accomplish mowage…
Hippie, enjoy the new sewing machine.
Taters, still don’t like getting shots/blood drawn but I don’t fuss about it and actually watch the blood draw at times. Don’t watch horror/slasher movies as gore does not interest me in the slightest. And ain’t it something on how fast the $$$ add up when we go into a place to get ‘just one or two things’? I try to have a set list when I do my Firday shopping, but always seem to end up with a couple more items than I listed.
rocky, good luck on the new tank and taming Lager’s inquisitive urges.
Mollie, good vibes from the purse, it is something concrete that you can see and touch and hold so yeah, it’s giving you all the good positive vibes.
And second load is about done, so need to transfer things and then start mowage, so have a good day all.
I’m assuming this is the same Hakenechloa macra that we use the name for- why the heck has the yellow one taken over? It looks ill. The green one is so much nicer but no-one ever stocks it /obscure rant
I have some, but it’s sitting in a pot and really needs me to do something with it, even if it’s just moving it to a bigger pot for now.
MetalMouse according to the scans this should be niece #3, because their house didn’t contain quite enough pink and sparkly unicorn stuff yet.
Mollie stuff just appears to fill up bags. You don’t need to worry about it, it’ll just happen. Mine mostly generates half-used packs of tissues, although they often vanish when I actually need one.
I have temporarily given up on attempting to wrangle the data I was wrestling with- all the online guides are written for someone who already knows way more about the topic than I do. It’s bizarre; the info for how to get to this stage is widely available, and the info for after this stage is available, but there’s just one ??? step in the middle.
I walked to the nearer shop and have acquired ice cream, so that’s an improvement at least.
