wipes away a sentimental tear
A freind of mine swore by GQ and all of the knowledge contained within. I was frankly getting a little sick of hearing all about it, so I posted a somewhat inappropriate question as my way of mocking him & the board. I never intended on coming back…but I’d be darned to find out that GQ did contain a wealth of info, as did the rest of the board.
Welcome to the Dope, Spidey.
Hmm. They don’t appear to be around anymore, but my first posts were overly chatty, and received a lukewarm reception from whoever was frequenting MPISMS at the time. I guess I thought that’s how that forum worked. 5 years later, I’m comfortable with just being myself, but I never did develop sense that I had become some sort of ‘regular’.
I jumped right in to a Pit thread about a girl banned from wearing a dress that depicted the Confederate flag.
In that same thread, someone did a sock puppet/trolling thing on me (I had no idea what that even was) and I found myself Warned by a Mod! But, the Mod then reread the thread (and I sent about 6 emails to them–all at panic level) and all was well.
I didn’t do an Introduction thread because I didn’t see any in MPSIMS at the time.
Now every time I see a newby thread, I wish I had done one…
And I still don’t feel like a regular round here–I think that comes with the territory.
Oh, welcome to the board!
Do a delayed, Hello to the board. I did at one point.
Some people take longer than others to brace themselves for the goat.
Me, I’m planning to never do a “Hello” thread – I much prefer being the squidder rather than the squiddee, if you know what I mean.
Your first post does not strike me as argumentative.
Regards,
Shodan
PS - Mine was about the children’s book Madeline, IIRC.
:dubious: I’ve been here about 2 years.
I dunno. I’ll think about it. Actually, I find that my appetite for argument and snappy comebacks is waning a bit. I really like this bb, but I don’t have time for sustained debates–I’m starting to wonder if folks here are all independently wealthy!
I don’t think 2 year is too long, call it something else. Maybe a “I never introduced myself, this is who I am” with some info you would like to share. My attempt was probably too long winded.
Nah, we’re just willing to sacrifice job performance and family.

You know, of course, that we do full-contact origami these days? Much less… marine… in texture.
Welcome Spidey , and by the way, nice topic for a first shot.
Mine was in response to Cecil’s column about the Ark of the Covenant. Of course I didn’t link to the column and the content that I offered was to suggest Graeme Hancock’s incredibly dense and misleading “The Sign and the Seal” as further reading. Sheesh.
I’d been turned on to the Dope by a friend, and used my little pearl of wisdom as inspiration to join the boards.

Yeah, right – you forget, Sunspace honey – I’ve been in Room #4.
My first post would be…this one.
Hi, I’m new, although I’ve been lurking for years, so I feel like I know all of you already. I finally ponied up the money for a membership, and I’ve been agonizing for days over my first post, so thanks for a great opening.
Jody
Welcome!
Would you care to join us for some origami in Room 4?
I didn’t know goats did origami.
You sure that wasn’t an ad for Preparation H?
Apparently my first post was in a thread about song sequel! I told a lame joke:
My second post was an immediate correction that we weren’t talking about films, beginning a long tradition of bad posts!
As for being a “regular”, there is so much traffic here, that it is hard for me to identify board regulars. The only people I “know” here are the people who regularly watch the same shows I watch or people I’ve met elsewhere.
I generally stick to Cafe Society. Great Debates are too snarky (and get sidetracked on boring minutia) and I usually forget about IMHO until I am bored.
Welcome to the board. You are off to a great start. Your thread allowed me talk about my favorite subject: me.
If I recall correctly (I’m typing this having sent the hamsters off on an epic quest), my first post was in General Questions. I had read an account of a spiritualist who claimed to have channeled Mark Twain’s ghost from beyond the grave; Twain had (she claimed) written one final novel through her, and she’d published it. I was curious about the copyright issues involved: could Twain’s estate demand all royalties from the book, or could they demand that she not use his name in publishing it?
Alas, the hamsters have failed on their quest, so I cannot find what the answer was to the question.

My first post consisted entirely of the statement “Of course fish fart. How do you think they get carbonated water?”
I’ll leave it to you to figure out what thread it was in. The only thing I would change is, I would have stuck with the Dope consistently since December 2000 instead of taking a 3.5 year hiatus. Welcome to the boards, Spidey and JelleyBean!
Welcome, *JellyBean!
We have refreshments in Room Four for all the newcomers.
