One of my first posts was about glass being a liquid. This was back in the early ages of the forums here before it had been discussed to “Three words ending with -gry” standards. Anyway, I posted under the impression that glass was a liquid, someone said it wasn’t, I cited Cecil and eventually the thread got something of a recant from the Master himself.
The earliest post I remember from myself is asking who Caesar Rodney was and why he was on my (Delaware state) quarters. There might be older, but Search only will take me back to April 2000. I’d do it the same now as I did then – I always appreciated the GQ portion of the site as the “purist”
Only two posts, and already my name is misspelled!! Not to rag on you Sunspace, but after the recent Pit thread it’s kinda funny. I feel like I’m in the right place. 
So, how do I get to room 4? Do I bring my own paper? I can’t wait to see goat origami. :eek:
I first posted when the board was on AOL. I think I jumped in on a thread about Gatorade. I had the basic story right, but I had a handful of details wrong. Several posters took me apart. Rather than getting mad, I acknowledged my errors and the folks who had spotted them.
We didn’t have The BBQ Pit then, and we didn’t have the level of civility we have now. There was flaming in all areas. There was an irascible cat called Dutch Courage who rarely had a kind word to say.

My first post was a quick sympathy post on the anniversary of Persephone’s tragic death.
I’m pretty sure this was my first post.
Kinda nervy to jump right into it like I did in that thread, I guess. Funny coincidence: I was thinking about that thread just yesterday because Penn and Teller tackled it on an episode of Bullshit - and they interviewed someone I spoke to when I was looking into magnet therapy.
My first post. Still bothers me, really guys, the likelihood of it falling off are slim, no matter how much you tug at it, leave it the hell alone.
but when I became a member, I’m pretty sure it was my Pit thread, since then, there’s no stopping me, I finally have a voice at the Dope.

Men adjusting themselves. I am a poker dealer and as such I am at about crotch level to folks standing up and have really gotten annoyed at this. FYI, I am sympathetic to the physiological reasons…
My first post was back on the AOL board, about 10 years ago now, I guess.
Someone had posted a question about time zones and something about China being 24 hours different than the USA because it was on the other side of the world.
I replied along the lines that if they really thought China was 24 hours different, they should get a globe, start in the USA, and count 24 time zones around and see where they wound up, and that it was not going to be in China.
If I had to do again, I might post a bit more of the actual situation and not just the clues.
But I had been a fan of the Straight Dope newspaper column for several years by that time, and it did seem like a sort of typically snarky kind of answer Unca’ Cec might have given, so I guess I thought it would fit in better.

My first post, after lurking for years, was just the other day: Modern experts on Greco-Roman mythology . Someone in GQ had asked about mythology experts, and I thought, “Wow, that’s me!” I was so excited I ran out and registered and replied, delighted to share my little corner of knowledge with the teeming millions. Why are we getting ads for surgical scrubs with cartoon characters on them?
As far as I can tell, my first post was asking whatever happened to Chisanbop, that magical form of finger calculating they were teaching kids in the 70’s. It wasn’t a bad first post. It hadn’t already been asked and answered in Cecil’s columns or elsewhere on the boards.
I never did get a good answer as to why it isn’t still being taught. I guess calculators are just cheaper, and Chisanbop is limited as to what sorts of calculations can be performed.

My first post was probably the best post I’ve ever made on the Dope. Hell, I even got complemented by Chronos later in the thread! Although after rereading, I did make mistakes in it – the formal definition of an infinite limit to infinity doesn’t have any epsilons or deltas in it.
