Your funeral music

I don’t know about the music, but it would be great if someone would dress up like the Grim Reaper. He wouldn’t say anything. Just stand there a few yards away from the hole.

Can’t tell for sure if this is it as I can’t see YouTube from work, but I’m partial to the Grieg Funeral March. That link is either to the funeral march he wrote, or the march they wrote for him.

The Imperial March, Monty Python’s Galaxy Song and/or Always Look on the Bright Side of Life (no censoring the “life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it” line either)

Also, the memorial ceremony will be completely atheist, no religion permitted, and no ties/suits permitted either, strictly enforced casual, I’d be a pile of ash anyway…

Waking Hour by The Gathering.

Greatest typo/name combination ever.

Are you one of the Good Tims?

“Good Riddance” by Green Day (“I hope you had the time of your life…”)

“The '58 Sound” by The Gaslight Anthem

“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong

Whatever is on my running iPod at the time and of course my favourite song in the world, “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order.

I preferred Frenté’s version.

“If I Had Words to Make a Day for You” by Scott Fitzgerald. (Sung by Farmer Hoggett and cast in the movie “Babe”)

Hopefully

Perhaps for my eulogy, a quote from Charles Dickens? “He was the best of Tims, he was the worst of Tims…”

I planned this one when I was in my early 20’s. Hasn’t changed: Fucik’s Entry of the Gladiators, aka Here Come The Clowns. I have been promised by a number of family members and friends it will be so.

Viewing: Flogging Molly - The Worst Day Since Yesterday.

Burial (w/Guinness on tap and Jamieson’s by the bottle): Dropkick Murphys - Going Out In Style

Amazing Grace with bagpipe and tuba.

I could never come up with anything better than what my first GF proposed. She wanted “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” be played,
while she was cremated.

I’ll write my own song.

I’m not dead
Get me out of this casket.
Stop pretending I’m gone.
I’m laying right here.

New Order’s Elegia - an ex-boyfriend claimed I was the only person who really likes this track. At one point I wanted it for my wedding, but it’s a much better fit for a funeral.

Most importantly, I want New Model Army Before I Get Old.

My husband has been fully briefed. I want to be cremated, no God, lots and lots of flowers but not funeral wreaths.

Disco Inferno by The Trammps, since I plan to be cremated.

There must be bagpipes. Everything else is negotiable, but I’ve got to have the pipes.

As I mentioned in the OP the music at my funeral will be religious and conventional.

At the reception afterwards though…

Instead of one of those DVD’s showing pictures of my life I’d like some of my favorite Tom Lehrer songs, from YouTube

One of my favorite sweatshirts should be on display. It shows a stable scene, bright star in the sky, shepherds and camels and suchlike. A voice from inside hollers "IT’S A GIRL!"

And I’d like copies of my favorite jokes lying around. At the top would be the signature from our fellow Doper Rick *“Remember this motto to live by: Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather one should aim to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, glass of Scotch in the other, your body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO! Man, what a ride!”
*

I also want champagne and chocolate covered strawberries served at the reception.

That thread title looked vaguely familiar, and sure enough, at reply #178 I chose “In Heaven There Is No Beer”. Apparently I rez’d a zombie thread to post it, something I didn’t realize until just now.

But I stand by my decision.

Oh, and my song choice, too. :o

Tom T. Hall’s I LIke Beer is a good choice as well.
