Your funeral music

I don’t want to hijack the Easter hymns thread, but because we’ve started mentioning funeral music I want to start yet another version of “What you will have at your funeral/internment”

In post #35 of the Easter hymns thread Northern Piper listed the other funeral music threads, and the newest one is almost four years old.

So, I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.

I’m going to be having a by the book funeral out of the Episcopal book of Common Prayer. Four hymns, Praise to the Lord, the Almighty", “I Know That my Redeemer Lives”, “Thine Be the Glory” and “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”

I’ve also instructed that the music played beforehand be loud, not that soft and solemn garbage that’s often played. I love good organ music, and my funeral will be the last chance I ever have to have things my way.

So, religious or non-religious, whatever style you like, do you have your music planned?

I stand by my previous selections: “40 Days” by The Dave Brubeck Quartet as I go out, and Molly Hatchett’s “Flirting With Disaster” at the service.

“Don’t Let Us Get Sick”-Warren Zevon

I’d like Ripple, by the Grateful Dead.

The theme song from The Johnny Carson show.

Celebrate Good Tims Come on!

My selections from the fifth link in the OP haven’t changed.

I scrolled through all of the linked threads. In the ones I participated in,* Free Bird* is always my choice. In the ones that allow more than one selection, Amazing Grace (on bagpipes) and *Dixie (a slow, mournful version) are constants. The three songs that varied were * Immigrant Song, Simple Man (Skynyrd, not Charlie Daniels) and Behind Blue Eyes.

If I go before my wife, then I’d add Lady-as performed by Kenny Rogers, for her.

Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, Movement III.

Loreena McKennitt—Prospero’s Speech. (This or her Cymbeline)

Aaaaaand, about half the selections from the top 20 “Most Played” section of my iTunes playlist. As usual.

For me? The SNL outro music.

“Funeral March for a Papagallo” by Charles Valentin Alkan.

Also, “I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead, You Rascal You.” Just for fun.

If I’ve taken part in any of the other threads, I’d be very surprised if this isn’t what I specified:

Frank Zappa “Son Of Mister Green Genes.” It’s an instrumental piece of music that has calmed, centered, and made me feel that “all is well” for over 40 years.

The Requiem Mass by Tomas Luis de Victoria.

As they wheel the coffin out, Highway to Hell by AC DC.

“I’ll Fly Away” by Allison Krause

“Just a few more weary days and then,
I’ll fly away!
To a place where joys will never end,
I’ll fly away”

She has a most lovely voice and the song is somewhat cheery and uplifting. I encourage you to give it a listen.

It has such soothing words of solace for the grieving mothers in attendance, too.

“Hey mama! Look at me! I’m on my way to the promised land!”

:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m kinda conventional. I’ll stick with the Mozart Requiem.

Anything but bagpipes.

On Eagles Wings

I want “Amazing Grace” but sung to the tune of “House of the Rising Sun.”

No, seriously, try it! It’s stunning.
