Your kid's letters to Santa

Do your kids write letters to Santa? What do you do with them?

last week, my 5 year old wrote his first letter to Santa, spelling everything himself:
“Deer Santa, I hav bin a good boy and wood leyk a spunjbob carry okie masheen”

He put it in the envelope, addressed it “To Santa, North Pole” and drew an up arrow so the mailman would know which way was north, I suppose.

My wife took it, told him she mailed it, and said “It’s in our fire-box. We’re giving it to his wife for her first Christmas with us.”

Last night I made a “…from the desk of Santa Claus” letterhead, and wrote him back. My wife made an envelope with Santa’s return address, and we’ll mail it over the weekend.

Snowcap font is perfect for this sort of thing, BTW. Feel free to steal that idea*.

*Unless you feel that stealing ideas posted on a message board is wrong, in which case, you can buy this idea from me.

I’ve got my kid’s stashed in the back of a desk drawer, and will use it to go shopping. I’ll probably slip a note in his stocking, too – Santa sending out responses pre-Christmas Eve doesn’t make sense to me.

Well, it’s more of an acknowledgement letter. Santa wanted him to keep being good and doing his chores, reminding him that the elves are still watching, and the Jolly One requested a particular flavor of cookie to be left out on Christmas Eve. It’s win-win. The boy thinks that Santa took some extra time out to write to him, so he’s happy. In return, he’ll leave the requested cookies out, so [del]Daddy’s[/del] Santa’s happy.
