Your last meal of 2008

Me and the husband stayed in and had a little party just for the two of us, complete with the following party food:

  • mini fish-finger sandwiches with tartar sauce
  • mini chicken kebab
  • tempura prawns
  • mini duck spring rolls
  • chicken liver and wild mushroom pate on crusty French bread
  • assorted nuts
  • champagne.

First meal of 2009 was a bacon roll.

A steak dinner and a murder.

We did a murder mystery dinner New Year’s party.

Homemade chalupas (or tostadas, if you prefer). Tostada shells with refried beans, cheese, tomatoes and guacamole. And beer.

Spaghetti bolognese

At my house:

Leftover ham from Christmas
A can of Fresca
A bowl of off-brand frosted flakes cereal with 1% milk

Last of 2008 - I made Cajun yellow rice and broccoli with cheese, to go with some Teriyaki chicken breasts I had picked up from Kroger (frozen).

First of 2009 - I don’t think I had anything but coffee all day, until just now when I had a cupful of turnip greens with a piece of jalapeno cornbread. I’m waiting on the pork chops to get browned in the oven.

Last of '08:

Green bean casserole
Corn bread stuffing

First of '09:

Red beans ‘n’ rice w/smoked sausage
leftover green bean casserole

Ham and cheese sandwiches on discount four-day old bread.

My wife treated me to a petit filet mignon, rare, with crumbled bleu cheese and A-1 sauce (I’m an addict for A-1 sauce), lima beans (very mushy and smothered in butter with a good dose of salt, just as I like 'em) and mashed potatoes, washed down with a glass of wine and a glass of water, followed by two mugs of hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows. Delicious!

A section of turkey hogie, crackers with herbed goat cheese or black olive hummus, and a cup of orange-honeysuckle herbal tea.

Wine and Champagne (Almond champagne and plain mixed with Chambord and raspberries.)

Salad w/homemade stewed tomatoes.
Orange and albino carrot salad
Wild rice with barley
Fruit salad
Bread with some kind of greek dip

We had a bbq. Steak, sausages and kebabs with a couple of different salads and far, far more wine than any one person ought to drink.

It was a great night!

We took out from a local restaurant that specializes in low country cuisine. We had:

Fried Green Tomatoes
She-Crab Soup
Fried Chicken with fried okra and collard greens (the wife)
Chicken Fried Steak with fried okra and cheese grits (me)
Bread pudding with a late harvest Riesling dessert wine from Trader Joe’s and coffee

It was quite delicious.

Last night’s dinner:

Poke chops
Mashed potatoes
Brown Gravy
Peas

Breakfast:
Scrambled eggs with green pepper, onion and cheese
Sausages - the small link kind
Shredded potatoes with onion

Dinner tonight (I haven’t eaten it yet, but man it smells delicious!):

Prime rib
Twice-baked potatoes
Sauteed mushrooms
Black eyed peas
Salad

Last meal of 2008:
Guinness Pub Draft
Chicken satay
shrimp wrapped in capicola
broiled sea scallops

First meal of 2009
fresh black coffee
biscuits and sausage gravy
bottled water

We forgot to get anything out so:

Last meal: McDonalds

First food today: Haven’t et yet.

Poke chops?

Do you mean Pork chops?
Apart from the shredded potatoes that sounds like a fine day’s eating.

A Linda McCartney country pie with mash and Harry Ramsden’s mushy peas; washed down with a bottle of mixed fruit Kopparberg.

Down here we call 'em poke chops - just ask Swampbear!

Dinner - well, we ate too much cheese and crackers to do the planned pork empanadas, so it was a big bowl of popcorn each with Cabot cheddar cheese powder. We’ll do the empanadas tonight (leftover red pork chile, shredded, chipotle, scallions, cheese, pickled jalapenos all baked in pie dough - a new recipe).

Bfst - eggs with scallions & brie, bacon. First non-oatmeal breakfast for me in quite some time.
