I’m sure we’ve already done this, but I can’t find it.
For me, the only character I really dislike is Claire. She’s got more than most people have: She’s beautiful, has a gorgeous husband and 3 kids with fairly typical pluses and minuses. But she’s bitter. Probably because if you take away the husband and kids, her life is fairly hollow, and she knows it. I find the bitterness somewhat annoying.
I don’t like Luke particularly. He is too old to be so whiny. I guess he is in an awkward stage, too old to be the cute little boy, but not old enough to be the cute guy.
I don’t really “like” any of them except Cam. I mean, they’re all funny but I wouldn’t want to hang out with them if they were real people. Cam likes football and outdoor stuff, so I think we would get along.
I don’t care for Manny because the actor who plays him is (IMO) a very poor actor. I have seen several debates about his acting ability and most people seem to feel that he started out with a very poor ability but somehow his ability improved to the point where he is quite adept at this time.
I wouldn’t choose to disagree about that and I don’t think it is fair to slag the character because I don’t like the actor.
I’m surprised to see that someone does not like the Clair character. I strongly like both the character and the actor. I think they are both quite wonderful.
A few months ago, I just grew very tired of this show and stopped watching it. I’m not exactly sure why. I guess it just became somewhat boring to me.
I’m afraid the character played by Sofia Vergara just wore out her appeal to me. I’m afraid that I heard just about everything she had to say that I found appealing.
I never had much interest in the children - most all of the children. So, after a very interesting start, I guess I just grew tired of the show and stopped watching it. That happens with many new TV shows. There are still a few that I watch but they are few and far between. Sorry to say that TV has just grown boring for me.
Lily’s character simultaneously worries me because she makes me want to smack a child, and because I worry about what that poor actor is learning about life. I’m genuinely more concerned about her than I am about children in horror movies. There’s no camera or script trickery that can make her behavior appropriate for a child of her age to witness, much less perpetrate. I hope her parents have a strong handle on teaching her just what a horrible person Lily is, and constantly reinforce that Aubrey, of course, is never ever going to be like Lily!
Yeah, for the OP, the character I most hate is a 4 year old. :smack:
What people are missing about Lily: She’s not merely a precocious child spouting adult-level phrases. We’ve seen enough of that in countless sitcoms and movies. But she’s specifically a precocious child of two gay male parents. And her observations are a direct result of being raised by two gay men, especially when they’re acting out gay stereotypes.
Her observations are not the problem. Her lack of respect (not just for her dads, but for everyone), her skill at emotional manipulation, her utter spoiled-ness, her inability to delay gratification even for a microsecond, her willingness to turn to blackmail in an instant and her general bitchiness are the problem. Lily is wily, not just observational. All of the reasons she’s a horrible person are most certainly her fathers’ faults, but it doesn’t change the fact that she’s a horrible person. Most 4 year olds are assholes. Lily’s taken the assholishness of 4 year olds to new heights.
I think she’s actually a mini-Claire, only Claire is slightly more sympathetic because I get the feeling she wasn’t aware that her husband is a clueless (bisexual, notthatthere’sanythingwrongwiththat, unless your wife is unaware) moron when she got into this marriage, and now she’s too scared, numb and/or honorable to get out. He must have been charming and appealing when they were younger, but the manchild thing palls after a couple of decades.
I’m a BOTD kinda guy, so I hesitate to believe this was as charged as it reads, I think it was just a SUUUUUPER poor choice of words.
My least favorite character is Hayley (the oldest daughter). I don’t like her because her basic character is “lol drugs and drinking and sex while I’m 18 lolol look ma, no real consequences!”, and I hate that trope.
Yeah I know it’s a sitcom, and having a VD/DUI/pregnancy scare isn’t funny so I’m not looking for it to change. I’m just saying…you know…think of the children! Won’t somebody think of the children???
