Your least favorite "Modern Family" character

Well, her husband is a bit of a dufus (albeit with a golden heart) and is not super successful in his career, so I can see Claire thinking that she could have done better. Also, two of her kids are basically stupid, and one (Luke) to the point of not being able to function in the real world, so she has that to worry about.

Who says he’s not successful? He can afford a $3 million house on a single income.

we don’t know if Claire’s dad paid for it

I don’t like Haley. Annoying, whiny, and entitled.

He’s never gone a month without selling a house, which I would think is pretty rare in the RE world. And he seems to be a pretty big deal in the local agent community, which is probably not just based on his ability to tell jokes at award dinners.

I’ll vote for Gloria. Her character is not a bad person, but just one so different than my “type,” that I find everyone’s drooling over her annoying. I don’t hate her, but she’s my least favorite. My least favorite relationship is Mitch and Cam. I wish they could get through just one day without hurting each others’ feelings. We never get to see them just act normal.

Unlike some of the rest of you, I love Claire and Phil, their kids, and even Manny.

I guess I’d have to say Hayley also, though more due to Sarah Hyland’s weird speech pattern than the actual character. She does this thing where she ads an “a” sound at the end of some words - especially when she’s whining “mommmmm” which comes out more like
mommmmmm -uh. Or noooooooo-uh. I’ve heard other young women do this and I always think of it as some variation of Valley speak or something, though I don’t know where it originates.

I hated the introduction of the nanny. Although I think he improved in his last episode.

Luke I love but he is in some big trouble right now like that kid from Two and a Half Men. They’ve got to find a way to stop making him stupid without turning him into a jerk teenager.

Manny I never loved but I get his act and he can keep going with it.

Haley I’ve gotten to like more lately. I think she is getting better lines.

Alex I used to like more. She feels she is just a kill joy now. If only she did something with her brain other then get good grades and lord it over others. Probably becoming my least favorite of the main cast.

Yeah, but she gets great laughs. Lily is golden.

Can’t believe I’m the first to say Cam. Don’t know if it’s a problem of the writers or the actor, but the character’s like every played-out gay stereotype ever rolled into one person.

Plus haven’t they said on more than one occasion that he’s the #2 realtor, behind Gil Thorpe?

Agree. Gloria is a little too over the top for my tastes as well.
Jay (who is very successful) once told Phil how proud he was of how well he provided for his family so Phil must be doing all right.

The way I see it the whole point of Cam is that superficially he is a gay stereotype but when you look at him deeper he isn’t. Jay can relate better to Cam than he can to his own son. At least that’s how they played it early on.

For long time watchers of the show, I was curious if this show ever had an easter egg that recalled Ed O’Neill’s long stint as Al Bundy? Did he ever sit and stick his hand in his pants, or mention how it must suck to be a shoe salesman?

Though I enjoy the show, I think Phil & Jay are the only two characters I actually like. Phil is the most immediately likable–I really can’t say a bad thing about him, but Jay is likable in an curmudgeonly old-man sort of way.

Lily.

Terribly written and frankly one of the worst child actors I have ever seen.

Two that I remember:

They’ve done a call back to his football glory days (in Modern Family I believe he was actually a bench-warmer)

On the trip to DisneyLand/World - he got Gloria to wear comfortable shoes instead of heels, and outfitted Lily in heels to stop her running off all the time.

There was the episode where they went to Disneyland, and Jay bought shoes for both Gloria and Lily. And David Faustino had a guest spot once as Claire’s old college(?) boyfriend. Nothing more overt that I can remember.

I guess to answer the question, I would have to agree with the “Lily” crowd. I don’t know about her as a child actor, but I very much dislike the character she plays. Of the major characters, Claire is also low on the list for me.

Done in one. As a straight guy, I find Julie Bowen very attractive if a bit too thin, but the Claire character is everything I have come to hate in an overbearing, helicopter parent.

I have read that the Luke character in real life is a mensa member… and if that is true. wow his acting is great. I actually like the way him and phil interact and understand each other. The characters that most annoys me are …Gloria’s boobs.
