Speaking of Rodgers, I see State Farm has brought back some of the “discount double check” ads featuring him, now that football season is back. I like those - especially the one where BJ Raji does his little dance, and the customer couple joins in. Such a look of WTF-ism on Rodgers’ face.

“C’mon, you said you were a dancer.”

There’s some pizza commercial maybe where a guy is in the store, they announce some special and he starts tearing off his shirt while yelling “THERE’S NO RULES!” Suddenly a loud voice exclaims “PUT YOUR SHIRT BACK ON!” and he wriggles back into it yelling “THERE’S ONLY ONE RULE!”

Usually I bitch about commercials, but there is one I absolutely love right now for Ruffles Potato Chips. You have to watch it: fairly dowdy GF tags along with BF’s poker game. She has a Ruffles chip… then she has headphones and sunglasses, and so on. I love the headphones. She’s also cute, but it’s not selling sex… just coolness magically coming from Ruffles. And I am adding “ba-ZING!” to my vocabulary.

This other one… I think I hate it in the short version, but I’m intrigued by the long version. It’s for Heineken, “The Switch.” Dudes go into a dive bar, and magically, by pulling a giant gear shifter, it turns into the most happening spot in town. Replete with a Amy Winehouse look- and sound-alike. The long version has some funny bits, like the piano player hanging on for dear life. The short version, IMO, is badly edited, and the barkeep comes across as spasmodic and creepy. The Winehouse clone is also a little WTF.

She isn’t supposed to be portrayed as a typical tag-along GF. she is a ringer. like a pro. She adds on her attire one thing at a time, while she cleans up the table of chips. the Ruffles are just something she is enjoying while kicking butt at the table.

Now there’s a new Geico commercial with Eddie Money. How happy are Geico customers? Happier than Eddie Money owning a travel agency. And he’s singing “Two Tickets to Paradise.”

Have you seen Eddie Money lately? :eek::eek::eek: He looks like Rosemary Clooney in a leather muumuu. The whole thing gives off the desperate reek of they’re using Take 117 but they’re going to have to wrap because there’s just nothing else they can do. His voice is gone and he just . . . he’s a zombie.

I don’t know how widely seen this commercial is, but it’s my current favorite: Cox Cable ad with the embarrassing dad who institutes “Bonding Time!” whenever their cable connection is buffering. It’s a series, but the linked one is my favorite, with the son and his girlfriend. The dad is so horrible and the kids are so cute. It’s a good thing it still makes me laugh every time, because they play the shit out of it.

FUN FACT! (well, fun for me anyway): These guys, the Dads, are from my hometown and are still friends as far as I know. They wiped the floor with everyone at high school speech tournaments. Both were the kind of smart-funny guys who probably thought they were nerds but everybody wanted to be them.

I like the Samsung commercials too where there are filming the people who are in the iphone line and talking about it, then have the Samsung people show them up.

The commercials themselves are only really ok, but I’m applauding Samsung for being ballsy in their direction of their advertising

Generally I think the Geico “happier than a ______” are really stupid, but I love the actor in the Gallagher one. Dude has one line and he totally sells the upper class, overly environmentally conscious DINK: “Does your cauliflower have a big carbon footprint?” (Kudos to the writer of that line too.)

I can’t link to it because I don’t remember what car the ad is for, but my husband and I both love the one where the guy plays air drums in his car. The tag line is “You’re not invisible anymore”.
