Our local classical station, WCLV. The morning host is Jacqueline Gerber, “Queen of the Morn.” She does news, weather, traffic and assorted chit-chat, interspersed with classical music. My favorite segment is “Pet News”, which she started after hearing that some people leave their radios on when they’re away, so their pets don’t get lonely. So she does special news for and about pets and other animals. And listeners can vote for Pet News of the Week.
I can’t think of a better way to start the day in a vile mood than to tune in to some annoying disc jockey and listen to whatever he/she wants to assault my brain with. Up that 100 fold if it’s commercial radio with more advertising than annoying disc jockey.
I have plenty of discs to choose from and what I select will vary day to day. Or perhaps just nothing at all.
I hate to say this, since I worked in radio for 50 years, but I couldn’t take the prattle of local radio first thing in the morning. For many years my clock radio has been set to WETA from Washington D.C. (I don’t live close enough to DC to receive their main signal but they have a repeater a little closer that I can pick up.) They play brief excerpts of classical music with two minutes of NPR news on the hour, and their morning host is a pleasant woman who makes it all about the music.
