Your opinion on the Hyundai Accent? As far as purchasing one is concerned.

I am a university student who will need a run around car, how would an Accent GS do?

I was quoted a price of ~16k CANADIAN before taxes for a model that is very nice IMO. Do you think I should look at another model before I buy this one. (This isn;t the first one I’ve looked at, it’s the best one so far)

I’ve looked at the Pontiaic Sunfire and it was an awful car. I also looked at the Kia Rio, but that felt cheap and cramped, and I looked at another kia, but I forget which one it was, but it was just like the Accent, except uncomfortable.

Thanks for any imput!

I would tell my own kid who said what you did take a long hard look at the Toyota Echo.

The MSRP on a 2004 Toyota Echo is $10,885 (american). The Echo gets significantly better milage than the Accent and has a (slightly) more powerful engine.
On price – alot would depend on cash back deals, but financing will be the same…
On Space, fit, design, safety and handling I think if you drove the Echo you might find a difference (YMMV).

IMO: What you have laid out isn’t crazy (always a fear when buying a car). Just be sure you took a look at all your options.

Also, have you looked at the Chevy Aveo? roughly the same price and size too.

I drive an Accent, and its really serving me well, no matter how i mis…er, treat it. The milage does go down over time, but its not much. The only drewback, imo, is that it is quite ilght, and tends to shake a bit in v strong winds. OTOH, I have heard many good things about the Toyota Echo. You could check that out as well. But if you settle for the Accent, it wont be a bad deal.

I can’t understand a word they say. And that’s all you see anymore in taxis and at the bank windows. I say, “Marriott Hotel” and what I get back is gibberish.

Goddamned Hyundaians…::grumble::

Where are you located, Chefguy? Not Alaska I assume, unless we recently annexed it and I missed the press release.

Hyundais are terrific cars; you can’t go wrong. Toyotas are fine too but in my experience their models are more expensive than Hyundai equivalents. Remember that the first MSRP for the Echo usually doesn’t include many options - if you want power windows and such you have to pay more, whereas the Accent will come with stuff like that as standard kit. Hyundais generally come with more options than other cars.

They’re reliable, have a great warranty, come with good standard equipment, and are surprisingly roomy for small cars. But you should shop around. Drive no fewer than 4-5 competing brands.
