At the end of the Star Wars Holiday Special, as everyone celebrates Life Day, Leia sings a song loosely based on the Star Wars theme.
We celebrate a day of peace.
A day of harmony.
A day of joy we all can share together joyously.
A day that takes us through the darkness.
A day that leads us into might.
A day that makes us want to celebrate the light.
A day that brings the promise that one day, we’ll be free to live
To laugh, to dream, to grow, to trust, to love
To be.
The melody doesn’t really match that of the actual theme. I’d dig up my copy of it, but I’d start having Wookie/Harvey Korman/Bea Arthur nightmares again.
Oh man, anyone who hasn’t seen this definitely should. It’s so bad. No, you don’t understand, its so, so, so bad. Really. It’s that bad. And I sat through APE half a dozen times. (A triumph for joanna kerns, who didnt use that name back then.)
I could only stand about the first 15 minutes. After that, I just couldn’t take it any more! (And usually I have a very high tolerance for dreck; I love B movies…) So I didn’t make it to Leia’s song, but maybe we’ll re-download it and try to survive.
I gotta go with Nonsuch, Bill Murray’s lounge singer’s are the definitive lyrics to Williams’ title theme. His lyrics went on for several verses too (though I can’t remember them).
“And hey. How 'bout that nutty Star Wars Bar?
Can you forget all the creatures in there?
And Hey, Darth Vader in that black and evil mask
Did he scare you as much as he scared me?”
