That was definitely the worst of my nieces’ era. The one redeeming thing about that show is the kids didn’t quite like it either and if they were whiny I could tell them “stop whining you sound like Caillou!” and they would stop.
My little brother was terrified of Mr. Rogers. If someone didn’t change the channel after Sesame Street was over, he’d run screaming from the room, and would take a long time to calm down. Best anyone could figure out it was because Mr. Rogers acted like he was going to come into our living room.
My nomination has to be Paw Patrol. It’s aimed at somewhat older kids than the roundly reviled Teletubbies and Barney, so there are actual plots, characters, and themes that are very stupid. The biggest problem for me is that it is so successful with many other, much better shows aimed at the same audience, such as Rescue Bots, various Disney Jr princess shows, Octonauts, Friendship is Magic, and more.
Nice to see someone else who remembers Timothy Church Mouse. It was local to the Indianapolis area, I believe. Even as a young Christian person, I found it cloying and overly preachy.

I’ve never seen that one, so i can’t judge. But i came here to defend Barney and attack Teletubbies.
Barney has nothing in it for anyone older than… 4, and is boring to watch. But i think it’s perfectly okay entertainment for little kids. It portrays positive social interactions, which is helpful for little kids.
Teletubbies is entertaining. But the core message of Teletubbies is that the most important thing in the world is watching television. Each show features someone’s tubby unexpectedly starting to glow, and the rest of them stop whatever they are doing to watch the TV show with rapt engagement. They are literally overwhelmed and fall over. And i think that’s a really unhealthy message to teach kids.
I missed a lot of the others being discussed, but i watched Davey and Goliath (i enjoyed it, and think it’s fine in a Christian way), Veggie Tales (same, and it encouraged my kids to eat their vegetables), Mr. Rogers (a super show) and Bozo the clown (no idea who played the clown i watched, but i enjoyed it as a kid).
Back in the day, I worked master control for a PBS station and Barney was easily the worst thing I sat through. Teletubbies wasn’t great but it was more of a vibe and I could tune it out. Barney was inane & insipid and constantly demanding your attention. Lambchop and Shining Time Station (Thomas the Tank Engine) were the highlights of my morning shifts.
That vacuum cleaner on Teletubbies scared the crap outta my kids.
Thank the stars they didn’t like it, cause that sun face baby looking down on them always weirded me out alittle.

I didn’t appreciate Peewees Playhouse for a long time. Now I would watch it, knowing the whole story.

The baby sun was terrifying. I do like that Tinky Winky threw Jerry Falwell into a snit. I remember having a conversation with an absolutely brilliant third grader a few years ago about how creepy the planes with faces on Jay Jay the Jet Plane were.
I encouraged my kids to eat vegetables by growing them, harvesting them, cooking/serving them and eating them with my children.
I don’t need no silly Christians prostelysing to impressionable babies.
I paid a bunch of money to take my kids to a theme park. Turned out it was Veggie-tales day. Honest to pete they were handing out comic book bibles as you went in. We stayed 32 minutes, exactly, and I took my four kids outta there. Nope nope nope.
They played it at gay bars for a while. A gay friend asked me it was not accidental that tinky winky came off as gay.
That’s the best part! I could never hate on the 'Tubbies for that one reason alone.
Oh! Jay-Jay. Argh. Savannah, the plane with the southern accent, or Herkie the one who always sounds congested. My nightmares
I’m torn here. Teletubbies and Barney were both awful, IMO, but the 70s had more than its fair share of stinkers. I’m reminded of The Bugaloos, about a group of insects that had a rock band, and New Zoo Review that grated on my nerves even as a youngster.
Still, if I had to choose just one, it’s Teletubbies.

Teletubbies really creeped me out. More than any other show I can think of. How that ever worked is beyond me.

I loved this show, but I think it was mostly the theme song and the puppets. I can’t remember any content.
I think I just had really, really, really low standards as a child.
I watched “The New Zoo Review” (if you got up too early on Saturday, not much was on).
I have 10 grandchildren AND 10 greatgrand children. Damn you, damn you all to hell for bringing up this repressed topic

The New Zoo Revue gave me the very false impression that hippos were benign. Thankfully, I’m not likely to see one on my daily walks.
