Your "safety" and "reach" schools

I applied to a bunch of schools in the UC system, and got into every one of them.

The thing is, I couldn’t afford to actually go to any one of them, so for the past few years I’ve been attending the local CC and am planning to transfer to the nearest CSU next year.

I’d WAG that many high school/cc students are in exactly the same situation. School is fuckin’ expensive.

Yeah state is more expensive than ever now, but don’t forget that the people who have made the costs raise all had the benefit of going there when it was much cheaper. State legislatures are filled with people who benefited from cheap state school tuitions and are now kicking the ladder out from behind them.

Safe schools were Indiana, Purdue, Michigan and Ball State.
Reach was Notre Dame
Wait listed at Notre Dame and went to IU.
For Grad school, was accepted at Notre Dame and turned them down to go elsewhere. Suck it Beyotches.

Brother said he could get me into Johns Hopkins as a legacy and was sure that, with his guidance, I could get into Harvard, but I couldn’t afford to apply at a stretch school, much less pay the tuition. Got accepted at Michigan but couldn’t afford the tuition before I established residency. Safety school was Northern Illinois University, which I graduated from with no debt. Sometimes wonder how my life would be different if I had lasted a year at Harvard before they threw me out. Probably not much, since Bill Gates didn’t start until the next Fall.

You do realize that Harvard covers 100% of financial need?

So how does one go from considering Harvard and Johns Hopkins to graduating from US News ranked #177 school that still charges over $20k a year in tuition?
