Your top five dog breeds

Boxer
Lab
German Shepherd mutt (German Shepherd mixed with something was the default dog all through my childhood. Collie, Lab and once a Husky)
Boston Terrier (they look adorable and I think of them as a mini boxer although I’ve never had one)
Irish Setter (I know nothing about these other than I have always wanted one. I’ll never get one because that kind of hair is WAY beyond my desire to keep neat)

  1. Gordon Setters

  1. English Setter

Yes, this is the thread that brought me back.

Golden retriever
Border collie
Labrador retriever
Portuguese water dog
hmm…Tie between a German Shepard and a standard poodle.

My favorite AKC group is “Working Dog”

I have a thing for the bull breeds…

  1. English Bulldog
  2. Bullmastiff
  3. Pug
  4. Black Lab
  5. English Mastiff

That’s a tough one!
Corgi
Doberman
Jack Russell Terrier
Boxer
Husky
(probably not in any particular order, subject to change at the drop of a hat.)

Labradors
Retrievers in general (“Here’s the BALL. Let’s play with the BALL! Again!!”)
Spaniels in general (excepting the American cocker)
Dogs
What’s that on the end of your leash?

I don’t have a top 5 of breeds, and despite my screen name, for my next dog, I’ll probably settle on something at the pound with big eyes. (Pit Bulls/mixes included: though they make it difficult to rent, they are usually fantastic around people.)

If forced to pick 5, from personal experience, I’d pick these:

Weimaraner
Labrador Retriever
Great Pyrenees
Rhodesian Ridgeback
Newfoundland.

I’m not a big fan of dogs smaller than a purse, but to each their own.

Scruffy Looking Mutt
Scottish Deerhound
Irish Wolfhound
Glen Imaal Terrier (see scruffy mutt lookalike above)
Golden Retriever

[ol]
[li]Australian Cattle dog. I love dogs, almost all of them, but my current aussie is really the sweetest, best-behaved and smartest of any I have had.[/li][li]Border Collie. I love these dogs, and find them to be very much like an aussie in temperament.[/li][li]Labs. They are good sweet dogs, but I have found some of them to be kinda dumb.[/li][li]Golden Retriever - see Lab.[/li][li]Greyhound. I have friends who had retired greys and they are very sweet. I have found them to practically be comatose most of the day, but they run like heck when they run. You do have to watch out for small animals, because they have a strong chase instinct.[/li][/ol]

Not in any order:

Lab
Irish Setter
Old English Sheepdog
Standard Poodle
Golden Retriever
Bernese Mountain Dog
O.k, that’s six. Sue me. I love all dogs except for 2 breeds, and I only dislike those 2 because I think they are ugly. Big sturdy working dogs with hair are my faves.

Welcome Home, PapSett!!

I really don’t know. My next dog is likely to be a medium sized mutt. I do like Pembroke Corgis and Shelties but the only ones I’ve run across that I really like are ones I’ve seen in obedience trials, so if I did get one of those it would probably be through a breeder that trains for obedience or herding. My other choice would likely be a smaller hunting breed but the only one I can think of is a Brittany and the same would apply, they’d have to be bred from obedience or hunting trained dogs.

*I do love these breeds but they are too smart and active and I don’t think I’d own one unless I won the lottery and could afford a big yard and hire someone to ru around with them everyday.

  1. Beagle
  2. Labs
  3. Border Collies
  4. German Shepherds
  5. Golden Retrievers
  1. Whatever the heck my dogs are. We suspect there’s some Carolina Dog in them but until we DNA test them, we can only speculate.

  2. Corgis

  3. medium dogs.

  4. big dogs.

  5. small non shake-and-piss dogs.

  1. Vizsla
  2. German Short Haired Pointer
  3. Border Collie
  4. Belgian Malinois
  5. German Shepherd

Sorry, its Jack Russells all the way down.

Boston Terrier
Chihuahua (short haired)
Labrador Retriever
Cocker Spaniel
Shih Tzu or
Pekingese they are very similar

Malinois
Dutch Shepherd
Beauceron
Australian Cattle Dog
German Shepherd

Seem to have a preference for herders…

Aw, I can’t pick just 5!

In no specific order:

Dalmatian
Bull Terrier (it’s that nose! I can’t resist that nose!)
Viszla
Black lab
German Shepard
2nd tier would be:
any of the “Pit Bull” breeds (APBT, AmStaff, etc.)
Puggle
Doberman
Weimereiner
Greyhound

  1. Doberman. Lilith would be miffed if I listed her any lower, and she truthfully is a great dog.
  2. Pekingese. (in memory of Mr. Woo, the great love of my childhood)
  3. Pug. I will have one someday, I swear it!
  4. Boston terrier. Almost as cute as pugs!
  5. Keeping my options open. I haven’t met many dogs I didn’t like.
