This would be an easier discussion if prostitution were actually legalized, with contracts, laws, user agreements, etc. – anything to compare the two practices, really.
As it is, high end escorts are probably safer than some of the women on this dating site, not to mention more honest with themselves. At the same time, they’ve got to give a huge cut to their bookers and agencies (though this doesn’t include gifts they get form longtime clients). On the other hand, escorts are also under way more pressure to put up with abusive men, pretend they like him and all that, while the ‘sugar babies’ (ug) are probably a tad pickier.
It’s somewhat surprising that rich men can’t even be bothered to pretend they want a woman to like them for themselves rather than their money – I guess that’s just as much a myth as inner beauty! 
I’ve occasionally wondered how deliberate that is. If I was the head of some organized crime group, I’d certainly consider giving large campaign donations to politicians who want to make and keep as many drugs illegal as possible.

I think thats a subset of rich guys, as I have seen enough biographies to say who has stayed married , vs who trades up when the lease on the current model is up.
The reality is that those girls are being paid as much to go away as much as any trophy bennifit they may give. They are eye candy plain and simple for someone who wants to indulge a fantasy island lifestyle, but both parties know that sooner or later boredom with the partnership is going to set in and another cute 19 year old is gonna catch sugar daddys attention.
That means her payoff is going to be money to go away quietly with no fuss, she may even have a contract already signed stating how much she gets.

As for the OP I really don’t see the problem. The only really new (well, relatively) aspect is the ability to set up such relationships online. Other than that I see little difference between this arrangement and mistresses or even wives in the past (rich old guy wants to scrump poor young thing so essentially buys her from her folks).

Because if you are a major player in the drug game it’s just as lucrative to get into the legal racket and have your cocaine sold in a Walgreens.
