I’m blown away by this Beatles cover band called The Fab Four. “Paul” is even left-handed. They are quite amazing. Any comments on The Fab Four, and what are your links to great cover bands?
Not a cover band, but an Edge (from U2) stand in: U2 - The Fly (Extended Solo) - YouTube
I don’t normally enjoy cover bands or tributes but this guy is the real deal. All he does is Edge’s guitar covers and they are all spot on.
The most amazing and talented cover act I have found (on YouTube) is Mike Masse, who began as a duo with Jeff Hall but now includes other musicians. Mike and Jeff are both lawyers who started playing in a pizza parlor in Salt Lake City. This is the first video I stumbled on:
2:44 to 3:28 gives me chills every time I listen to it. I recommend using headphones.
He does a wide variety of covers, most available on YouTube. Several are better than the originals, IMO.
In 2012, his infant son was diagnosed with a brain tumor - a grueling year that he chronicled on CaringBridge. His son is currently cancer-free, and Mike returned to singing with better recording equipment and more musicians. He is now pursuing music full-time and playing around the country. Truly a talent worth checking out.
Here’s a link to hisbioon his website.
I think there’s two different things here. A band that plays well-known songs but does it in their own style is a cover band. A band, like The Fab Four, that’s attempting to look and sound like another band is a tribute band.
I guess I meant tribute band then. Oops.
If you are a fan of Genesis, Peter Gabriel era, check out The Musical Box, who re-create past Genesis tours with the same costumes and sets.
Here is a link to them performing Supper’s Ready
I would love to see The Musical Box but they don’t seem to come around this way (KC). IIRC they are from Canada and seem to tour more in the northern US. My brother who lives in St Louis has traveled to Chicago a couple times to see them.
What’s cool about The Musical Box is that they have the full cooperation of the original band when it comes to costumes, stage design, etc.
I think the number one tribute band for The Who are The Wholigans.
Aussie Pink Floyd probably sets the standard as the next best thing to a PF show.
I saw this on a recent thread here but in case you missed it, here is a very good cover of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. It is very well done.
Among the many Beatle cover bands I’ve heard, two stand out.
First, there’s a local Austin band called the Eggmen:
But the best I’ve ever heard is the Fab Faux, a team of veteran session musicians led by David Letterman’s old bassist Will Lee. Here, they recreate side 2 of Abbey Road:
The Eggmen suck eggs.

[/QUOTE]The Fab Faux are fantastic studio musicians, but I guess what I was going for in the OP was a tribute band that had the same look and feel as the original. I love the Fab Faux and have watched this video numerous times with mouth agape. I know Abbey Road inside out and backwards and these guys just absolutely nailed it.
There’s a really good AC/DC tribute band called Hell’s Bells.
Here is them doing Back in Black.
