Well, the liberals that have actually heard of it.
Fair enough. I’ll drop it.
Yeah. I’ve got a finite amount of time to discuss stuff on the Internet, so I’m not generally in the habit of starting threads about the latest dumb thing done by Trump, for example. I figure there are other Dopers here that will cover that, and that my threads about it would be redundant.
We’re supposed to be fighting ignorance, right?
Mention on the SDMB some right-winger doing something shitty, and you get three pages of denunciations of the right-wing.
Mention some leftie doing something equally shitty, and you still get three pages - but half of the posts are "why are you so obsessed?’ and “there’s no debate - everyone stop talking about it”. Or even “Elephant? What elephant?”
Regards,
Shodan
Did you honestly think I wouldn’t check on that supposed “fact”?
Searching on Breitbart: 3060 hits.
Searching the term ““fox news” Antifa”: I got 414,000 hits…the most recent being about an alt-righter conning Fox News Host Jesse Watters into believing he was “Antifa”.
Just gonna say, everything I know of Antifa, I’ve learned from you.
This is not entirely true, of course, as there are other sources of information that I have browsed since, but I know that I first heard of them on this board, and I assume it was probably from you.
We’ve got a Islamic Center near here. And a while back some of our local bigots decided to throw a big “get the fuck out” rally over there, this was coordinated with the national “march against sharia” people.
Self identified antifas (which I didn’t know existed in the area) showed up and counter protested. Everything was peaceful. Lots of yelling and such, but no violence.
So, if I were simply following my local news, I would have seen that antifas in a very positive light, I would have seen them as standing up against some really racist asshole bigots.
The fact that there are other antifa groups and individuals who are violent sucks, and I condemn such actions, but I don’t know that I can condemn the group as a whole, as standing up to fascists and bigots and racists and other “deplorables” in a peaceful but vocal way is, IMHO, a noble cause.
Got any more hometown loonies you want denounced?
Wait, what? You think this is somehow disproving my claim that Breitbart and Fox News are not the only place where stories about Antifa appear? You might want to try reading post #19 again, perhaps slowly, thinking through each word’s meaning.
Or is this just another interesting observation you wanted to share?
I never claimed that Antifa stories did NOT appear on Breitbart or Fox News. My claim is that they don’t ONLY appear on Breitbart or Fox News. Essentially, the Antifa violence is newsworthy or significant enough to merit stories on ABC News and the LA Times.
A small handful of mentions versus hundreds of thousands seems to point out exactly who is pushing this story.
Does it surprise you that leftist violence gets more play in right-wing media? It doesn’t surprise me. Would it surprise you that right-wing violence gets more play in left-wing media? That wouldn’t surprise me either.
Thank you for admitting where the vast majority of news about “Antifa”(both real and fake) comes from.
Like I said up-thread, “it’s probably a bit uncomfortable for leftists to talk about their crazy political cousin”. I get it. You guys (the left collectively, not you in particular) would rather sweep it under the rug.
Really? Have you forgotten where your original link came from already?
edted to add: At least the ABC News story was real, unlike the fake interview on Fox News.
What ‘original link’ are you referring to? In this thread? Or some other thread?
BTW, I’d really like a response to this. Don’t just ignore it please. You called part of my post a “supposed ‘fact’”. After (hopefully) re-reading the post, and this reiteration of it, do you now concede it was an actual fact, and not just a “supposed” one?
We’ll always have ACORN.
Is it that hard for you to find your own OP and see where your first link came from?
It was like they had a phobia about oak trees at times.
And they all wear those masks so you can’t tell who they are. Crazy leftists? Rightie agent-provocateurs? Who knows? But if, say in the next six months or so, there’s some big incident, like maybe, say, a fire somewhere, be real, real skeptical when the fingers start being pointed.
Am I paranoid? Maybe, but better to be too paranoid than not paranoid enough.
And also worth addressing, the way you’re using Google here doesn’t show what think it does. To illustrate my point, searching the term CNN Antifa yielded 506,000 hits.
Do you think this somehow indicates that CNN is the biggest Antifa-story-pusher of them all? Or that your Google-hits-method-of-analysis is shit?
