ZZ Top: Appreciating Them In A whole New Way At Age 54 (Almost)

I cannot say enough about this, but for Christmas, my son installed a whole new sound system in my car and it kicks ASS!.

I am having to find excuses to go somewhere so that I can hear ZZ TOP’S Mescalero and The Greatest 'Tits CD’s because it’s such a damn “concert-hall” experience!

My question: Given my age, what other CD’s would y’all recommend I listen to in my car?

Thanks!

Rockin’ Q

'74 Jailbreak
Led Zeppelin IV
Deep Purple - Fireball
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

Dire Straits - “Money for Nothing” has to be one of the all-time great car stereo workout tunes, if only for that buildup/intro…

Anything by AC/DC, Black Sabbath or Judas Priest will crackle those babies. I think, though, that you need to roll down the windows and crank “Just Got Paid” by the Top. THAT rocks!

My first post (before the “Winter”) alluded to square dance calls being blasted out my windows at traffic lights.

So y’all think this would be a definite step up, huh?

Love Y’all!

Grab a fence post, hold it tight,
Womp your partner with all your might.
Hit him in the shin, hit him in the head,
Hit him again, the critter ain’t dead.
Wop him low and wop him high,
Stick your finger in his eye.
Pretty little rhythm, pretty little sound,
Bang your heads against the ground.

RAWK!

Speaking of kicking ass, Gov’t Mule always works for me. Unfortunately, my car doesn’t have a CD player, so I don’t get to listen to them that way very much. But if you like ZZ Top and the heavy blues/rock kind of thing, you might like the Mule.

Loved it, Darth! I read the whole thing and it made me appreciate the fact those old cartoons weren’t just “thrown-up” onto the screen!

Thanks for the edu-ma-cation!

I recommend ZZ Top’s Deguello CD as well, if you can still find it. Any of their CDs previous to this album have been horribly remixed - they sound nothing like the records. And the LPs after this one, they learned to use a sequencer, which is not a bad thing if you like sequencer rawk.

But Deguello is a buncha car-drivin’-speakers blastin’-ass kickin’ songs that stand up to repeated listening.
And go get yourself some cheap sunglasses!

Rory Gallagher’s Live In Europe

Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe. Seriously.

Also try “Industrial Disease” from Love Over Gold.

“Doctor Parkinson declared…”

Thanks, MBS, and et al!
