White Elephant...anyone want another?

I'd volunteer to organize it, but that's just asking for trouble.

I was wondering just cuz I've been on a de-clutter kick of late and found some fun stuff.

So...if we do another one soon, count me in.

I dunno. Right now I'm trying to trade weird stuff I don't want for weird stuff I do want. But if you want to wait untill the end of summer or so, I could put together a box of weird stuff nobody wants. And wouldn't that be fun to recieve in the mail?

Or, I could cheat, and start looking specifically for White Elephants at rummage sales...

Put me down as a maybe.

I did the white elephant thing on Fathom. Sent out a video capture device for a computer, some various other stuff...

...never got a package from anyone, though.

So I'm sort of once-bitten, twice-shy on that front.

I'm interested too. I'm not sure if I have enough stuff, though, but we'll see. Put me down as a definite maybe, if we do do this. I wanna be in on a Straight Dope White Elephant Exchange (tm)!

I spose I could organize it school's out for the summer so I have a bit of time, and I'm pretty decent at organization, so....

Ok, send e-mails to my address listed in my profile. You better send an IRL name as well.

I'll try to sort people so nobody is winding up with a $127.53 overseas shipping bill.

As far as a deadline goes - end of June? The 15th of June? I'm open to suggestions - if someone needs a bit more time, no worries - just post it here so people don't think I'm making stuff up.

I think that's it. Let me know if I've forgotten something.

Al.

I thought that enthusiasm for these things had petered considerably, but I'll be damned if I'll miss one if we're doing another.

A nice guideline ought to be that if you're pressed for time, hurting for postage money, or can't get the post office, do the nice thing and spend $.34 (in the U.S.; substitute other currency and amounts as appropriate) to let your recipient know BY MAIL that you'll eventually get the thing mailed and you're sorry for the delay. That way, at least they get the thrill of a piece of personal mail while they are waiting.

Or spend just $.21 and send a fun cheesy postcard.

I concur with Cranky.

Also, maybe glass bottles of perfume could NOT be sent.

They're really smelley when they break.

Ha! Try not getting anything for the last TWO White Elephant exchanges. This was even after I sent out an extra package to someone who didn't get one. I not only didn't get anything, but I never heard from my people saying they couldn't send anything.

Thanks, but I think I'll pass this time.

Ok, guidelines are as follows:

There's no "well known enough" requirement - send me an e-mail and yer in.

Anything you send has to be in working order. So if it has pieces, all of them have to be there, it can't be broken, rotten, etc.

As I said, glass bottles of perfume are probably not a good idea.

You can send one item, or you can send many items. Usually I think most people send a shwack of stuff.

Anyone who signs up, and does not receive a package in an allotted amount of time, will receive a package from me(provided that their receipent has received theirs). It may be a smallish package, but it will be a package (I have a never ending supply of, um, stuff). It really sux to participate in one of these things and then get stiffed.

Anyone that for some reason CAN'T send a package should let me know, so I can get something for their receipient ready in a reasonable amount of time.

Ok, I'm waiting for e-mails...

Al.

I just remarked to our very own Rue that I had some stuff to send out. Thanks for organizing this, I know I sure don't want to do that much work! (it's hard enough for me to get my butt to the post office, for heavens sake.)

Email will be sent shortly.

Hey I'm in. I got some stuff from the last time, no not from the person who sent it to me, that I've put into a box. It's almost ready to ship! Just be glad I haven't done the work on my motorcycle yet I was planning on giving someone my old sprockets!

I just sent my email.

As for people not getting packages, Rue recruited a crack squad of Emergency Backup Elephanteers to send addictional packages to folks who didn't get theirs. And I'm not just saying that because I was one of 'em.

Sure, sign me up. I need to, a, clean up a bit anyway. Not to imply that this stuff is no good or anything, it's just... um, I never have time for it! Yes!

Question: How is it determined who your package is sent to? Are they sent to the organizer, who then swaps them around and ships them out or something like that?

Rick - in!
Brynda - in!
Grelby - in! (but I need yer mailing address!)
beegirl13 - in!

Grelby - once I have all the names (The cut off is June 21 I think), I'll randomly* assign each Elephantur an Elephantee. I will send the Elephantee's address to each Elephantur, and they will send the parcel directly to said Elephantee.

Do NOT For the love of PETE! send your package to me, unless I'm your Elephantee! Ummm, K?

*It's random in so far as I'm going to try to keep people mailing within their continent, just so no one is stuck with an astronomical postage bill.

My e-mail account is acting up, but I'll get one sent to you from one account or another.

Oh, and a small request - if you're going to include chocolate in a package to me, please make sure it's edible! Last round, I received a mess o' three-year-old Hershey Kisses - what a cruel trick to play on a choholic!!!! <sob>

Ah hell, why not? I'll send an e-mail off in a sec.

One thing, however. I am going to be across the country until the 23rd, so, I won't be able to package up, and send, my amazing treasures until after that date.
