The Ovaltine Appreciation Thread

Rich, Chocolatey Ovaltine.

Vitamin enriched chocolate powder. Also comes in chocolate malt flavor.

Yummy Ovaltine.

My mom teases me when she catches me eating the powder right out of the can. It has this wonderful texture and dissolves in your mouth in a way that other chocolate powders, such as Nestle's Quick, can't even touch.

A glass of Ovaltine is the beverage equivalent of looking at nudie pictures of James Marsters.

Mmmm. Ovaltine.

Just so long as I don't have to drink any of that "Original Malt Flavored Ovaltine" crap. Bleah.

I agree with tracer: so long as it isn't the malt flavor, yum! It's usually cheaper than Carnation Instant Breakfast stuff, and mixes into the milk better to boot. (For some reason, chocolate IB stuff never mixes into the milk well with me. But the strawberry does.)

Now, if only I could find a nice jumbo-prepping-for-the-next-big-one size in the plain ol' chocolate flavor again, I'd be happy.

Man, the number of times I only had time for a glass of Ovaltine for breakfast, and it got me all the way through a school day. Love the stuff.

A large bowl of vanilla ice cream.

Sprinkled liberally with Ovaltine.

Heaven.

Right down to the crystals swirled in the melted sludge at the very end.

Heaven, I say.

That reminds me: the next time I go to Oasis, I should get some ovaltine bubble tea. For some reason, I've had it only once or twice that I can remember.. but it was good!

Oh yeah, I should also get around to getting some Ovaltine powder and such from the store, as well.

I actually kind of like the original malt flavor, but I do prefer Rich Chocolate. My mom loves Original Malt. She was very pleased that I brought home an industrial-sized can of Ovaltine from Wal-Mart today. (Please don't flame me for shopping at Wal-Mart).

I've been on an Ovaltine binge all day. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I've been sick off and on for the past week and a half and my body craves vitamin-enriched chocolatey goodness mixed with milk.

Why do they call it Ovaltine? The mug is round. The jar is round. Why don't they call it Roundtine?

We were never allowed to have Nestle Quik as children, only Ovaltine, which had vitamins. Let's hear it for Ovaltine! Bringing chocolate milk to the children of resposnsible adults everywhere!

No thanks. In THIS house it's a mixture of Brooklyn's own Fox's U-Bet chocolate syrup, and Horlick's malted milk powder.

Preferably in the blender with some milk, vanilla ice cream, and a banana.

Ovaltine was a lifesaver when I was pregnant. One of the few things that would help with morning sickness was milk, and spiking it with Ovaltine increased my nutritional intake drastically.

I keep a jar of it in the cabinet, in fact. Yummy Ovaltine!

I've always felt that the rich chocolate flavor, while tasty, was a bit of a cop out. Purists, such as myself, preferred the malt.

Unfortunately, bringing the subject up puts that song in my head again:

Who put the benzedrine
In Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine?
It could have been The Man Who Wasn't There
Nah, man, that cat's a square.

(Say, uh, who put the nimbutal
In Mr. Murphy's overalls?)

Yeah Ovaltine!

I like to take a spoonful, and dip it into a glass of milk until it is all wet, then eat it from the spoon. Eventually, enough Ovaltine will fall into the glass to make the milk chocolaty.

Good times. Good times.

When I read this, I made a point of stopping by Wal*Mart on my way home for the express purpose of getting one of these mythical "industrial-sized cans" of Ovaltine you spoke of.

Not only did Wal*Mart not have any industrial-sized cans of Ovaltine, they had no Ovaltine in any size.

tracer, we got Ovaltine at the WM where I work- did they not carry it there or were they just out?

I regret to say I don't care for it- it doesn't seem to dissolve well in milk & leaves a kinda gritty texture.

Please tell me if my memory out of whack or what, but I remember drinking Ovaltine cold - in milk. Have any of you Americans drunk it hot?

I ask this because here in the UK it is a hot drink only, like hot cocoa.
